Yup, you'll have to buy new ones.

I feel your rage and agree throwing them away is for the best.

Persevere!
Sleeping bag: keep stuffing it in.
Tent: fold very neatly to the length of the bag then roll as tightly as possible.

You can also get larger bags.

Sleeping bags need to be rolled so the air is squashing out. Don't trap the air! You will be doomed from the start.

I genuinely don't understand why they don't make tent bags just one inch bigger. Fuck sake.

My top tent tip (although it doesn't apply here) is to fold in thirds, not half. Controls the shape better and folds smaller.

Open bag. Remove poles. Tent will fit in and bag will now be light enough to carry.

Here Here Mrs Hathaway! Why can't they make the standard bags a bit bigger?

Ah, I feel your pain.

However after many camping trips I am now and expert tent roller.

Stuff the sleeping bag, they don't need ot be rolled.

For the tent, fold it so it is just narrower than the bag (the width always creeps) and then ROLL ROLL ROLL tightly using wrist strength, body weight and using your knees to keep it tight in. Get someone else to help you slip it into the bag.

No, that would be a shocking waste. You'll have to sell your house and sleep in the tent forever Grin

Outwell tents do have big bags. Get one of those next time

I can't help with the tent but for the sleeping bag:

Lie it out on the floor, kneeling at the toe end. Fold it into thirds and hold the toe end tight. Roll the toe end in on itself as yellodraw describes, then get someone else to hold the stuff bag while you push it in. Hold the folded end with the palm of your hand as you push it in, stops it unfolding.
