Inspired by another thread (holiday cottage welcome pack)...

Where are your favourite holiday destinations and places you'd recommend, UK or abroad? If you could link or name specific places, that would be great. Also, say why you like them so much.

We're always looking to go to new places and find recommendations to be really useful. Thanks.

Ok, I'll start. My first recommendation is a place we stayed last year with a group of friends. It's called Red Welly and I'd read about it in The Guardian who had done a feature on self catering places in the UK.

The place is amazing; 3 separate cottages, sharing the huge garden space. There was one main cottage that had a huge table to seat 16 in the large kitchen. Each of the two other cottages had smaller but functional kitchens. The cottages were newly converted and the furnishings and space was really good quality. The kitchen equipment was amazing, they even had a kitchen aid mixer!

Down a short walk at the bottom of the garden was a private beach that we used every day for paddling and boarding. It was an amazing holiday and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I discovered Polperro in Cornwall this year and totally fell in love with it. We went for a winter break and it was so breathtakingly beautiful. We had a really cosy cottage with a huge woodburning stove, great food in the local pub. I loved watching the waves crashing on the rocks, and the bracing walks. I really feel I have missed out only discovering it recently, especially that it's so good in winter.

My favourite abroad place is Loggos in Paxos. Paxos is generally a stunning island, all of it is wonderful, but Loggos is magical. It's a tiny fishing village, so a stunning little harbour with a few restaurants and bars. The views are fabulous. It is the best place I have ever been.

Ooh definitely watching with interest, I always feel we are missing something and go with the obvious choice as I can NEVER find anything that looks unusual and perfect!
My fave holiday so far was an all inclusive in Mexico. Would love to go to the Scilly isles or the Azores.

Santorini is amazing - stunning views - we stayed in perissa but the island is tiny and so it is really easy to travel to anywhere on the island.

In The Uk it's Holy Island or Seahouses in Northumbria or North Norfolk.
We own a property in a beautiful area of Spain called the Costa de la Luz, much less developed than other Costas.

It was called Peirrin House, but there are lots of similar ones in the village. All the houses in the village itself, i.e. near the harbour, are very old, so all have lovely thick Cornish walls and charm. We were spoilt for choice I have to say.

Just a warning re Polperro - it's lovely in winter when hoolio went, but it's absolutely teaming with tourists in the summer.

My favourite place is Rome, absolutely love it.

We went on a tour of the Norwegian Fjords with Inntravel www.inntravel.co.uk/destinations/norway

All the hotels were booked for us, coaches, trains and boats, we just had to follow the itinerary they provided, it all worked perfectly. The hotels were superb, the scenery amazing, and we never felt rushed with the travelling, it was all very relaxed. Norway was incredible, I'd love to go back, but it's also very expensive!

Westbay Club, Isle of Wight - New England style self-catering accommodation, indoor pool and outdoor splash pool, on-site restaurant and spa, ferry booking included in holiday price.

James Villas - Colina del Paraiso, Costa del Sol. Amazing three storey townhouse accommodation with rooftop terrace, complete with hot tubs and views to Gibraltar. On-site restaurant, three pools, beaches nearby but need car.

Pinelodge Holidays; stayed at both sites, very good, especially with young children.

Cape Verde - beautiful, unspoilt, go now before it gets too commercialised.

Clearwater on the Gulf Coast Florida. Miles upon miles of deserted white sandy beaches. The beaches are like you always imagine a beach should be but they rarely are. I have moved around a lot and it's the one place where I thought "yes, this is the place I could stay forever".

Nidri on Lefkada. Basic Greek self catering holiday, and not much beach. But you can sit on the narrow strip of shingle or under the trees and look out in the most amazing view of islets in the bay - its so peaceful and calming.
