AIBU?

to not put kisses at the end of my text messages?

My sister mentioned to me yesterday, in a slightly huffy tone, that I don't put kisses at the end of my text messages. Oh really, I said, I've never really thought about it. Does anyone? Yes they do, she said.

She's right. I checked on my phone and EVERYONE puts kisses on the end of their texts. Except me. Family, friends, work colleagues, even my NDN, on the one occasion when she texted me to ask if she could put some rubbish in my blue bin.

I honestly hadn't noticed. Now I'm aware of it I find I still can't usually be arsed remember. AIBU?

I don't apart from dp.
My manager who barely talks to me puts x on his texts to me. I reply with a full stop as it's weird.

Yes! Even my manager, who blatantly doesn't like me. And vice versa.

I'm with you.

I get kisses from service providers (beauticians etc) and even from random strangers on gumtree!

It's also bizarre when used at the end of a prosaic sentence. When did it become punctuation?

Funniest thing is British people hardly ever kiss each other. I'm Latin, we greet each other with two kisses and I wouldn't dream of signing my messages like that.

The beauty of MN is that it lets you hear from people who are different from the people you see in your everyday life.

It is perfectly normal to never put kisses on the end of any text messages.

It is also normal to put them only when texting a significant other.

It is also normal to use them on nearly every text.

It's probably best not to use them when texting your boss.

Your sister could be me. I think you've got the hump with me if you don't put kisses.
I guess we've all got our strange ways

I don't - I used to but have grown out of it. I've realised that it is pretty much just a UK thing.

I've lived in 4 countries and none of my local friends in any of the countries put kisses. A couple actually asked me why I put crosses in my messages.

It's a nice childish way to let dh know I am pissed off with him when I don't put any kisses on texts!!

I put them on the end of texts to pretty much everyone except my boss. If I said a text without it means I'm either thoroughly pissed off or being more formal. I find it weird when I get a text from the hairdresser etc with kisses on but go with it.

I do, I think it's because you don't need to sign a text as it's obvious who it's from, but it feels weird ending with a full stop and nothing else. If I have to send a 'work' text I end with full stop and then my initial.

I hate it when people do this. I even see it on Facebook for sale pages - 'Will you take 15 for it? x', 'I can pick up tomorrow x'. Some people seem to think an 'x' is similar to a full stop.

I very very rarely put kisses on my texts and when I do, people notice and remark upon it Grin I put them where I might give a kiss in RL, so perhaps if wishing someone good luck, or saying thank you for something.

A friend of mine however sprinkles them liberally at the end of every single text and it does come across as a little strange to me. But then I am guilty of the overuse of emojis, so it all balances out in the end.

I find it really annoying that a woman on a FB group always puts a picture of kissy lips at the end of each comment she writes.

I don't know why it really grates on me, but it does.

Nope. I think people are used to me by text (I hope)
It's formal with the correct spellings. I haven't got the hump with anyone. Only my sister complains now, even she's going quiet.

Just received one from my hairdresser with a x at the end. I never send any to her, it's a bit strange. I only ever send them to my DP (one) or DF (maybe two)

I have never put a kiss on the end of any text I have ever sent...ever. People who sign off texts with a x or call me hun make me wince.

Why do lots of people on here seem to get texts from their hairdresser? I don't recall ever having a text from my hairdresser, or even ever feeling the need to give my hairdresser my mobile number.

When texting DW and family I normally put a kiss after every text

When texting friends I follow their lead but usually don't text x after every text but at the end of a conversation.

I don't text X to colleagues unless I am texting from my personal mobile to their personal mobile in which case I treat them as friends. If colleagues text me X or put it in a work email I ignore it and just sign my name. My ex boss used to always put kisses on emails and I found it fake but luckily my current boss does not do that.

Sometimes my clients or their parents text me and put a kiss
If they do that I put a smily face emoticon in my reply so it looks friendly without being inappropriate

I text my hairdresser if I can't make it or need to change the date, she texts me if she needs to re-arrange.

She is a kissey texter.

It's the people who put 'xxx' at the end of tweets that get me... But at least I know when they're pissed off as they don't put 'xxx' in annoyed tweeted!

Report
NoBetterName · 29/07/2016 20:58

Oh right. I'd just phone the salon to rearrange.

On the topic of the thread though, I don't put kisses on texts unless it's close friends or family. I do find it a bit overly familiar with people I don't know well, or know in a work context, but then I'm possibly a bit stand-offish like that and won't add people from work to Facebook etc either.
