For background we have ponies and it's the middle of the competition season. Ringworm in horses is a major pita. It's highly contagious and is a pain to eradicate as it can live in wood like fence posts and stable doors.
Sister has guinea pigs and bought a new one home a few weeks ago. Guinea pig went a bit scabby so she took him to vets and they suspected ringworm. This was 2 weeks ago.
Since then I have avoided my sister, my.mum and my other sisters. We all have dcs if various ages and it is highly contagious.
DN has a rash as does my step niece. Sister had treaten it as ringworm.
Results came back today. Definitely ringworm, still active in guinea pigs ears and the incubation period is from 4 to 14 days. And it's contagious before the rash appears.
I have said I am not willing to see any of them until I know it's cleared up and everyone who has been in contact with sister has had at least 14 days for the rash to come out.
My sister has been to all my other sisters houses and my mums house. We all have animals of some description.
Have been made to feel as though I am massively unreasonable for not seeing them. We were all going to do days out with the dcs etc. I normally see my mum a couple of times a week.
But if we get it best case scenario is we don't go to the stables until we are clear of it and scabs have started healing for at least 2 days. Worse case scenario we give it the ponies and my ponies and the other 4 I livery with can't compete until we are clear. We will uncur vets fees for treatment as well as having to disinfect the entire yard to prevent it from reinfecting the ponies at a later date.
So a massive ballache.
So aibu for refusing to see them for at least 17 more days? It's already been a fortnight.
