Delivery of same item again for free by accident

Hi everyone

I ordered a swing for my DD. It came, it's up but I've just had an email stating its going to be delivered again. Is it wrong to take delivery again and give it to next door for free for their grandchildren? And say nothing to the company I bought it from?

When it arrives phone the company and tell them. They may just tell you to keep it anyway. Then your conscience is clear.

Of course it's wrong.

It's wrong. If it's delivered you should phone them to tell them. They might let you keep it anyway, as a lot of things are uneconomical for companies to arrange collection.

Yes, it's wrong.

Yes it's wrong, don't be so dishonest. Phone them up and let them decide what to do.

Wrong.

The email might be a mistake, rather than the delivery ie it might not even come. But yes, it would be wrong to keep it

Yes it is wrong.

Yes it's wrong- I got a delivery of 2 same items in one box- was quite expensive and definitely only charged for one. I still returned one and was gonest about reason

Email them or call before it arrives! Double check they're not sending another

Something was once delivered to us by mistake. We didn't notice because it was among several boxes of flat pack furniture that we had ordered. We called to tell them and they said we could keep it.

Yep it's wrong...

... Not like I've been in the same situation but I kept the item instead. Blush

It's more likely the email is just late - it's referring to the one you've already got.

Ooh you're all so good

Yes it's wrong but no ones going to die and you're not selling it for profit, you're paying it forward Smile

Yes it's stealing. Surprised you even have to ask really

and what about the person who ends up on a disciplinary or having the cost taken out of their pay when a stock take reveals their mistake? Would you still feel good about paying it forward as you put it ?

This happened to me with a DVD player years ago. Driver told me to keep it and call customer services to arrange a collection, called them and they told me to keep it. Chances are it will cost them more to send a courier out to collect it.

Years ago we ordered a set of garden furniture. Think large table, decent chairs etc the sort which arrived on a pallet. Anyway they emailed to say the parasol was out of stock and would be delivered separately. Fast forward a week and the parasol was delivered, and then the next day another entire set of furniture, including parrasole was delivered.

We did call them, and TBH what annoyed me most is that it took them eight weeks to get round to collecting it, so it took up half our garage during that time. If I'd known that I might have given it away instead.

It's probably an email glitch but if it arrives, keep it.

I love these threads.

I think the email got delayed if I'm honest, happened to me a few times but got no extra item.

Depends on the company. If it is not exactly ethical itself it could be morally OK to donate the extra swing to a needy cause. (This may have been what I did when it happened to me.)

I'm so torn now! My conscience doesn't want anyone to get in trouble. I will ring them tomorrow. I was paying it forward because I didn't want to gain from it. I honestly just thought "who would notice" but the comment about it being stealing has made me think twice. I feel bad now for thinking about not saying anything!

Just so you all know I am not a bad person lol, doing the old mans next doors garden tomorrow it's going to cost me in excess of £50 (he doesn't know and I won't tell him) just because he's a lovely old man and I can't bear to see him weeding every week!
