This time last year we went to Thomson to book our Honeymoon, we looked at places with loads to do, we wasn't bothered about sitting around. We looked at Italy mainly. Only problem was the flights would be hard to work around work, so this lovely lady recommended Bulgaira and told us it had everything we wanted. No night clubs, loads of places to eat, look around and walk for miles, trips and activitys. She gave us a list of activitys and trips and we went away to think about it and see if that amount of time would be ok away from my son. We agreed it was because we would be constantly busy. We looked up the place and it came up with the activitys we were given, loads of good reviews about it too.
Well we went on our honeymoon all excited but also i was a little upset with leaving my little boy for 11 nights. When we got there we soon worked out that not only was a german and french hotel but the hotels entertainment was German or French. We decided to have a little walk but an hour later we was back at the hotel disappointed, not only was there nothing in the town but the town turned out to be a local villiage with nothing around unless we took a 2 hour journey, we even took a hour and half walk on the front to see if there was even any bars or markets... sadly there wasn't. We decided to spend £100 on this trip because that activity list and trips was all cancelled apart from the one we were going on and a kids pirate ship. The trip we went on had everything we asked for and felt we had been misold on our honeymoon. The day before we decided to fly home, we decided to speak to our rep about how let down we were, he was on day off but there was a Thomson German rep. We spoke to him but he kept saying that he didn't speak english (he spoke perfect English) he also told us that he wouldn't help us. That was it for me, i told my partner i wanted to go home. Not only was i crying everyday for our son and our honeymoon ruined but i was fuming that 6 days in and we wanted home. (We had 5 days left) when we got home we made a complaint and asked for a bit of money back even if it was for our flights, we got told to wait 28 days.
Today i had a phone call to see if we had been contacted, i said no and that i was becoming really annoyed with having no contact or even a sorry. 30 minutes ago i had a phone call saying she spoke to her manager and they both agree that they owe us nothing!
AIBU to be so angry and let down?
Sorry for the rant but i'm also wondering what else could i do? Or are they in the right?
So confused right now (doesn't help having baby brain right now)

What do you think they owe you for? TUI is a German based company so operates through various brands throughout Europe. Was it an exclusive hotel to them or a Robinson club perhaps? Tbh you sound rather naive and perhaps should have researched further (Trip Advisor etc). It seems as if it was coloured more by leaving your Ds behind. However if Thomson delivered what was described I'm not sure what redress you are anticipating.

You didn't complain until the end and had used all the holiday there for they wouldn't refund you or move you. If it was the beginning of the honeymoon then you would have had an outcome. I don't understand the lack of research, even just a quick google maps to see how far stuff I before you go when it's so important. Lesson learned for any future holidays.

Also not sure why you couldn't enjoy the entertainment

Erm.... Did you not do any research before you booked on the hotel? Like tripadvisor? Guidebooks? It seems that you had a very 'set' picture in your head of how you expected it to be. It's a shame that you felt let down and it's a shame that the activities weren't running, but YABU for expecting the holiday company to compensate you for the fact that your expectations weren't met re: the clientele.

Also what do you mean by nothing in the town? Just nothing English? Or no shops or restaurants at all?

harderandharder2breathe · 22/07/2016 15:21

You should have done your research. Failing that you should've raised the issue at the beginning when they could do something about it

It's a bit like going to a pie shop, buying a steak pie, get home to eat it but find out its chicken but eat it all anyway then going back to the shop saying "you sold me the wrong pie and I didn't like it, I want my money back". If it's not what you want you have to speak up sooner or just lump it.

Haven't you heard of Tripadvisor or even just doing a quick google to research the placeConfused and if you were crying everyday why wait till the very last day to complain. Sorry I think Yabu.

In fairness to op it sounds as if they spoke to rep on day 6 of 11. Did you fly home early in the end? Was it AI as often those hotels are not in resorts as they are set up to be self contained.

when we got home we made a complaint and asked for a bit of money back even if it was for our flights, we got told to wait 28 days.

Clearly states she waited to get home to complain.

No, OP complained day before leaving then again once home. She said she wanted to go home by day 6 and had 5 left. She didn't complain until 10...

It sounds like a big reason you came home was for your son. I would never go away and leave my children. I don't see you are entitled to any refund.

Wow, i got told mumsnet was quite horrible but i thought they'd be a few nice people that would understand. Naive? I ain't that at all. I had done my research but until recently there was nothing about the place apart from what the Thomson lady told us and gave us. Even my mil who is good at this sort of stuff only got information about the hotel. And when i say nothing i mean no bars, places to eat or anything, it was literally homes or a building site. I had waited all week to take things further because we walked further each day to see if we were being blind we also was waiting for our rep to get back to us which by the way he was never there to talk to us. Also it was my parents idea to have my son so we could enjoy a last holiday together, i was against the idea but was also grateful. Not going into details i had a rough couple of years and they knew i needed a holiday with my husband. My parents and son ended up having a bladt and i'm glad for that. I'm glad i didn't take him somewhere that was boring. I really can't believe how horrible some of you are being. We did get misold the holiday as i have just been talking to someone who is good in this area and he as said we should get some money back. Why would someone recommend somewhere with nothing? People properly have read everything i have put as not nice, but i am a nice person, i have never made a complaint before and have always seen the good in everything. Why am i explaining myself when i will be ripped apart again?!

How did they mis sell it?

Report
turnaroundbrighteyes · 22/07/2016 15:50

If it was mis sold then under the new consumer rights act you should be entitled to a refund - think Which have a guide. The problem may be proving it if all the advice they gave was verbal...

JoanneNewton · 22/07/2016 15:53

I do have all the prove, i just been through a lot of paperwork. Its just what to do now

You couldn't find anything during online research because there wasn't anything TO find. That should really have made it obvious to you.

Report
branofthemist · 22/07/2016 15:57

But what did they tell you there was, that there wasn't ?

How an you prove a verbal conversation?

Report
MollyTwo · 22/07/2016 16:11

You couldn't find anything online should have been a clue.

YABU. Chalk it up to experience and do your research properly next time.

If it were me and the rep had give us all this info we'd go home and research it, tripadvisor and the likes, like we do with every holiday/trip we go on. If we couldn't much info then we just wouldn't book it and we'd find somewhere else. If you had a good look about and couldn't see much wasn't that a wee bit of warning sign?

I don't think anyone has been particularly horrible to you either, just pointing out what they'd have done. You should probably just chalk it up to experience and do more research next time :), hope you've managed to have a nice trip or holiday since then.

Did Thomson provide you with the reviews? You could still check its location on google maps which would have shown you bars etc. It's crap you had a shit time but without complaining at the beginning Its hard to see how you'll get a refund as you took the product

Surely the fact that you couldn't find anything about the location suggested there wasn't much there???

Nothing online would have been a clue that this hotel is not widely visited IMO. I would have assumed it was a new hotel and not bothered

I'm sorry if you think people are being nasty. You asked if you were being unreasonable, based on the info that you gave, and several people told you that they thought you were. That's the point of AIBU.
