AIBU?

To ask how you avoid catching all the bugs from nursery?

He's only been there a month and he's had 2 sickness bugs and back to back colds. He's better today but I had to take another day off as I'm now throwing up!

How do I avoid catching them? He always sneezes in my face. It's a long walk home from nursery and I can't wash his hands until we're home (and I guess they don't make antibacterial handgel for an 11-month-old?

Time helps. Come school age, their immune systems are far more robust.

Hand washing helps. And time.

Feel better soon

You can't. All you can do is tell yourself that it's building up his immune system and it's one less bug he'll catch in the future. My dd had a runny nose/cough for 18 months straight after starting nursery. She is 4.6 now and is rarely ill!

They have to go through this at some stage - better at nursery than school (it sucks though)

You can't, it's part and parcel of childhood unfortunately.
Just pray dc's immune system improves rapidly.

yep, as everyone else has said its a phase.

Although I've been using carex strawberry laces hand gel on my DD when out and about since maybe 9 months ish...was I not meant to?! (Not particularly after nursery, just out and about in general.)

To avoid you catching it - sneezes well no way to dodge them! But D&V can be dodged with lots and lots of hand washing (as soon as home, after nappies, after loo, before food etc) and getting changed when you get them home from nursery. Well, its worked for me - although maybe I just have the constitution of an ox.

I never managed it! Ds started preschool and for the first term at least one of us was ill with some sort of bug he brought back with him. It was a grim time, I had so many chest colds back to back it restarted my athsma that I had been completely clear of for more than a decade.
You can do your best with hand washing and wiping things, but the germs spread as it's what they do.

My little girl only went to nursery one day a week initially and it felt like she was off every other week. She'd fall ill with temp and sore throat/cold etc, have a week off then return and catch similar concoction on returning. On the bright side she has a really robust immune system now and had a 100% attendence in her P1. There's not a lot you can do though.

A multivitamin in the morning.
Sleeping with head raised.
And teaching them about handwashing.

It's always worse at the start.

My two DSs were both at nursery and both got sick, now - touch wood - neither of them has ever had a day off school for illness.

You don't! It's all part of growing up .... and strengthening your immune system

Once he has caught a specific strain he then builds immunity, it's a part of life and stopping them catching them now will mean they just catch them later!

Handwashing, separate towels, Dettox spray door handles etc, helps stop it spreading. The first few months at nursery were hellish with both my two (not so bad with the second as I had got the hang of infection control better). But in the long run it paid off, they've gone through primary school with barely a day of sickness between them.
