I e never heard anyone say Armond?!

wineandcheeseplease Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:01

Almond here. Your way sounds odd to me!

redhat Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:08

um, you're wrong I'm afraid. But by no means the only one.

branofthemist Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:16

I have a friend who does it. I laugh every time.

I have no idea who is right. Wether you should or not. But after 34 years of never hearing the 'L' I makes me laugh.

RastafarianTargaryen Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:17

Almond sounds better than armond.

<ducks>

I'm with your DH

TheUnsullied Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:50

I've only ever heard the make believe people inside the TV say armond.

MaisieDotes Tue 19-Jul-16 20:03:55

I say ahmond.

But apparently both are correct (silent l or pronounce l).

BrendaFurlong Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:05

Regional differences?
My DF says almond with the l sounded, and comes from the South West of England. I grew up in the Midlands and don't sound the l.

(I am also in a mixed marriage on the scone front.. we have learned to live with the difference!)

BombadierFritz Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:06

Armond?????

PassiveAgressiveQueen Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:20

Armond here

TheRealAdaLovelace Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:36

it's an arl-mnd
Are they saying AL-mond? that could be a bit odd.

TaliZorahVasNormandy Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:37

I'm with your DH here. I pronounce the L.

myownprivateidaho Tue 19-Jul-16 20:04:44

I would say armond. I think al-mond is the American and the Indian English pronunciation.

MyAmDeryCross Tue 19-Jul-16 20:05:04

I say almond. Is it a geographical thing?

bloodyteenagers Tue 19-Jul-16 20:05:21

If it was meant to sound armond there would be a r in the spelling. But there's not.

cbigs Tue 19-Jul-16 20:05:26

Ah-mnd here too.

FlyingElbows Tue 19-Jul-16 20:05:48

I say ah-mond
AhI-mond is irritating.
Ol-mond is supreme wankery. grin

tibbawyrots Tue 19-Jul-16 20:05:55

Ahrmund

OurBlanche Tue 19-Jul-16 20:06:05

But Armand is a name, of an Anne Rice Vampire...

The almond is a nut...

ExcuseMyEyebrows Tue 19-Jul-16 20:06:05

I say ahmond. There is no 'r' in almond and the 'l' is silent.

2nds Tue 19-Jul-16 20:06:06

I've just looked it up on here and it seems that we are all wrong and it's a silent L like wtf? www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/pronunciation/english/almond

I'll still say almond though!

branofthemist Tue 19-Jul-16 20:06:07

I would say ah-mond

Rather than aRmond

TheUnsullied Tue 19-Jul-16 20:06:11

Not arl-mund, no...

It sounds more like ol-mund.
