to be fed up with DH being always preoccupied with work

It has such a massive impact on family life and our relationship. He spends the majority of his time thinking about issues at work which makes him totally distant. Often he doesn't even make eye contact with me I just get grunting replies when I talk to him. I am usually feeling happy then he comes home and a black cloud descends on the house. I know he can't help it and when we talk about it he recognises there is a problem and says he is going to change but then never does. I sometimes get the complete him at weekends which is wonderful but not always, and if I do we are back to square one again on Monday sad

I sympathise. Does he like his job or is it more incredibly high powered / stress related as to why he is preoccupied?

Either way you'd both benefit from some ring fenced time without work doninating. I suspect technology is s big part of this.

I meant to say my DH is similar but because he loves his job and the subject area - so half the time he's working of scheming about work because he wants to, rather than because he has to.

He flits from saying he likes his job one day to hating it the next. He seems to think he is the only one who is competent and therefore takes on way more than he should but then complains about being the only one who does anything. He is rubbish at delegating because he thinks he is the only one who can do things properly. I have pointed all this out to him.
