to not want to eat veggie sausages with Best Before date of

10/05/16

DH thinks I'm being ridiculous. I think it's disgusting to eat something that out of date.

He stresses that it's "Best Before, not Use By".

They're fridge sausages, not freezer, if that's relevant.

I wouldn't either!

I'm really relaxed about dates, but I'm not sure I'd eat those either!

Freezer maybe, fridge no!

Blazing row ensued and he's stormed out. What a wanker.

I would. It's a best before date like he said.

Surely he can eat them though?

Shock bb May? Freezer I prob still would, fridge no way.

i'm not convinced that its worth a massive row over, either way!

depends what they are made of as to whether i'd eat them. if they look/smell ok, and it is in fact a BBE date then i would probably eat them.

How long were they made before the BBE date? I am very relaxed about use by dates, but even I'd think twice about those.

If they were vac packed ones with at least six months between manufacture and BBE date, possibly after a little sniff/prod/taste.

Three months or less between manufacture and BBE date, probably not.

I happily ate feta that was 8 months out of date and it was fine, but cheese is matured for months before it gets to the shops and is just cheese. Veggie sausages can be a bit of a mystery.

Eek no, I wouldn't eat them. He is a prat for making a massive fuss though. Some people think that only meat can give you food poisoning, so anything veggie is ok to eat indefinitely, could he be thinking that?

Oh, he's taking out personally for some reason. He's been extremely rude to me and stormed out of the house. I told him I didn't want an argument (especially as it was in the garden, so in earshot of neighbours, probably). He's such a dick.

He stormed out because of sausages?

He allowed our DC to eat them earlier, knowing the Best Before date. I said it was disgusting. He gave me a load of abuse and has stormed out. I've gone to bed. Doubt I'll see him again today.

Yes, he stormed out because of bloody sausages!

Apparently his mother always serves food that is months past Best Before date, so saying "disgusting" is insulting her. I can't believe this. So fed up with him. He called me v so many names and was so vicious. That's why I posted on here, to check if I've gone completely unreasonable.

Lots of things mold so this isn't just about it not being meat that spoils!

In this house we have a week for fridgey stuff that isn't milk or meat, milk gets 3 days and meat gets 4 unless it's gone a different colour or the packets started puffing...

Was he pissed? Not that that's any excuse. What a pig.

I'm fairly laid back about dates on food packaging but no, not something best before a date in May.
He sounds as though 'the heat has got to him' - aka he's being a dick.

minisoksmakehardwork · 17/07/2016 21:49

Were they ever frozen and just defrosted today though? And if not, how in the heck did you manage to keep sausages for over 2 months past their BB dates?

If it were up a week past their best before date, as veggie sausages I would probably have eaten them myself but I wouldn't have given them to the kids.

But then I've got eggs in the fridge that are quite a way past their stamped date. I just check them before I use them.

I would have eaten them, as they were frozen. If they had been in the fridge for months, no chance.

Sorry, misread the OP. He is BU.
