AIBU?

To think that there are now too many pictures on the BBC website

The BBC website used to be my go to site for news and articles but these days it has so many pictures that there's hardly any room for words. I use a laptop to browse the internet and its so frustrating because most of the screen is taken up by pointless pictures.

Does anyone else find this infuriating?

See this or this for example.

I do too... I preferred it when they just had the list of top stories and summaries.

I use itv now!

I hadn't actually thought about it, but when I look at your links I can see your point that it is picture-heavy. But I don't think I have a problem with that - there's still plenty of scope to read rather than watch, IYSWIM.

Yup it's like a kids picture book. One sentence, no option to read more and photos, video or a Twitter transcript. Crap!

Yeh, it's dreadful. But part of the universal dumbing-down. And I'm sure it won't be long before they start inserting Pokemons in what articles they do have Grin

I hate it when you click on a link to a story and it's a video. I want to read a story and on a lot of occasions I just can't watch a video because I have no headphones and don't want to disturb people. Videos probably also use shed loads more data so I only watch them when I've got wifi.

I agree

I don't want to watch videos. I want to read

Yes, and I find the increasing reliance on video particularly annoying.

There isn't enough expert analysis or opinion about events, I find it really frustrating.

I totally agree. Too many pictures and particularly too many videos. I don't want to watch videos. I want to read the story! I used to find the BBC news site excellent and accessible and it often led me to read about topics which I would not normally go to.

Now it's a jumble of videos and pictures.

I feel the same but they've done a lot of testing on this and most of the general public don't want to read - they want to watch videos or look at pictures. The BBC readership stopped falling when they made these changes.

I just use other news sites now. I like to read!
