To think boys should be able to do Brownies?

I'm a bit confused why they don't? Girls are allowed to do Scouts/Cubs/Beavers, so why can't boys do brownies?

Because Guides and Scouts are different organisations. Scouts decided to start taking girls, Guides didn't decide to start taking boys.

Scouts only opened up to girls as they had fallen numbers.

They're separate organisations so I see no reason why a girls only organisation should admit boys. (Half wondering what happens if a boy identifies as a girl..)

No. Brownies is for girls. I agree 100% that it should just be for girls.

Girls should be allowed to have some things that are boy-free and Brownies is one of them.

I think it's wonderful that girls ate able to have a girls only club like rainbows/ brownies to go to. There's a lot of emphasis put on good body image/ physical health and it's a safe space for lots of girls as well as being lots of fun!

That's not to say that I don't think boys should have an equivalent male only space... Perhaps they should but the scout organisation decided that wasn't right for them.

I don't know if this is the reason, but I think some girls benefit a lot from an all-female space. It would be a shame to take that away. I didn't know Scouts etc were mixed, but can you try to find a troupe with a high proportion of girls if that's the factor? Otherwise I'd imagine they're doing more or less the same thing.

It's sexist. I think they should be separate. There is nothing wrong with boys only being with boys and doing boys stuff.

YABU - GirlGuiding is for girls and women, study after study shows that the moment there are mixed groups, the males dominate. Girls need a place where that doesn't happen, and Guiding is strongly of the opinion that they are that place.

Both were set up by Baden-Powell siblings. The scouts was first, then, after some girls gate crashed a scouts event, Agnes Baden -Powell started the guides.

I think it probably depends on the brownie pack - we probably did more outdoor stuff than craft (plus being taught to wire a plug - I imagine they don't teach kids that now)

I'm just irritated that beavers places around here are like gold dust name went down at 1 and unlikely to get a space yet and yet if he could join rainbows he could start next week

The brownie leader I know told me that .,.Some families only allow their daughters to attend brownies "because" no boys are allowed. If that changed girls would have no where to go.
I'm not sure if I think Yabu, I'd have to think about that one.

My daughter did circus skills, star gazing, environmental care, the odd bit of craft.

Rather than trying to push your son into an all girls group, you could offer to volunteer and run some crafts at your local Scouts group, OP.
