To think western Governments need to fight against Saudi Arabian Wahhabism

Well that really, muslims are being radicalised around the world in Saudi funded Islamic schools. Saudi Arabia is funding mosques in UK, France and Germany.

Islam can be peaceful and loving, but Wahhabism isn't. We can't keep being attacked we need to stop Saudi Arabia who is the root of all radicalisation. Im not saying military action, but we need to stop appeasing the Saudi's.

Yasmin-alibhai-brown is completely right on this. Please read www.independent.co.uk/voices/the-evil-empire-of-saudi-arabia-is-the-west-s-real-enemy-a6669531.html

My DH is muslim and detests the whole set up in Saudi Arabia (he has been there). He also hates the way wahhabism is seen by some as the reality of all islam. In his home country women drive, go to the beach, manage to survive without being chaperoned Hmm, etc. I am hoping low oil prices will reduce the financial muscle of the Saudi Government.

You could have titled your post ...

"To stop western governments sucking up to the filthy rich Saudi government"

Which would be (a) more accurate and (b) suggests why it's answer is likely to be "not likely" Sad

Old news but yes YANBU.

If you look up the origins of the House of Saud and wahhabism things start to get very murky.

Hopefully the new generation of electric cars will see them off!

I never even thought of that!

Yes I agree.

Can we simply ban it? Why should saudi be allowed to fund these mosques on western soil?

I completely agree but I'm not sure what the answer is.
Was saying on the Paris attack thread that Islam has been practiced in such a diverse way globally and, terror attacks aside, it's saddening to see hundreds of years of people's culture and traditions steamrollered by an ultra-conservative monolith.

I am half expecting Saudi Arabia to implode in the next decade if oil prices stay low. Bread and Circuses stops working to subdue the population when you can't supply the bread anymore.

Sadly it coming way too late.

The Saudis have already spent BILLIONS pushing wahhabism in schools and mosques all over the world.

This country she follow Austria's example and ban foreign funding of religious schools and places of worship ASAP.

Yet officially we're great bloody chums with them, aren't we? Doesn't seem to be even a sniff of critisism towards them from the UK. It's starting to feel like the elephant in the room.

Absolutely agree

But We celebrate our freedom that has also allowed growth of extreme Islam in Europe that has been fuelled and funded from Wahhabism. We either have to take the step of saying no extreme Islam it has no place in our progressive society (as France has tried to do) or we allow the right of freedom to practise religion to whatever degree you feel is right for yourself as long as you are not harming others

The debate of the niqab highlights the difficulties in dealing with religious freedom

I think we can say no more extremism.

Good point. The booming US (soon to be followed by UK) shale gas industry is a worrying development (and the reason the oil prices are being kept so low. OPEC is desperate to prevent shale gas exploitation by making it look unprofitable when the price of oil is so low).

Once the US has no need of Saudi Oil, it will have no interest in stability in the Middle East. In fact the less stable the better as international oil prices would go up making the US self-sufficiency in energy a very big deal.

Of course, with no need to suck up to the US, the Saudis are probably going to say "Right. No more Mr. Nice guy ..." Shock

I think a nice simple, ban on foreign funded mosques, ban on Wahhabism and lots of info to look out for signs of extremism incl niqabs.
