I've always had both as well as meat and veggies, dh thinks you don't.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely Thu 14-Jul-16 18:48:13

No. Unless you want to, but it's definitely not traditional.

Friolero Thu 14-Jul-16 18:48:14

I would never have mash with a roast dinner, just roast potatoes

NoCakeLeft Thu 14-Jul-16 18:48:36

I don't see, why would you need both?

MeganChips Thu 14-Jul-16 18:48:55

My mum has always done both, DH's family didn't.

I don't bother with 2, it's either/or.

ArmySal Thu 14-Jul-16 18:49:01

I do too (greedy).

vinoandbrie Thu 14-Jul-16 18:49:09

Only roasties in this house.

BUT, if I were at someone else's and they had both, I'm sure I could find space for some mashed potatoes as well 😊

MatildaTheCat Thu 14-Jul-16 18:49:20

Mashed swede for me, please.

DustyBustle Thu 14-Jul-16 18:49:48

Weirdo hmm

sue51 Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:01

Only roast or baked not mash.

CreepyPasta Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:06

Artandco Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:08

No, you never double carb. Especially the Same carb

228agreenend Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:10

My mum always does this.

Scarydinosaurs Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:33

Mashed potatoes and roast parsnips YES

Mashed potatoes and roast potatoes NO

Porcupinetree Thu 14-Jul-16 18:50:43

YABU mashed potato is disgusting...

AndNowItsSeven Thu 14-Jul-16 18:52:01

Yes of course you have both.

Babysafari Thu 14-Jul-16 18:52:35

What do you all have on your roasts?

My mum always did both types as did everyone I knew so we'd have the meat, roasts, mash, veggies and perhaps stuffing or Yorkshire puddings too.

You don't need both but they're so nice!

Dhs mum never did both but now they've come round to my way of thinking and they always do both.

Captainkanga Thu 14-Jul-16 18:53:18

Yes to both!

Unless you're my mum who does roasts, mash AND boiled Charlotte potatoes, full choice of veg, two meats and both stuffing and Yorkshire puddings irrespective of what the meats are.

Bloody love it!

KoalaDownUnder Thu 14-Jul-16 18:54:12

No. One kind of potato only. (Roasted, cos it's a roast.)

MrsDoylesTeaParty Thu 14-Jul-16 18:54:44

My mum does mash, roasts and potato croquettes. It's a triple carb coma!
It's a huge pyramid shaped plate of food but only once every few months. When I start doing a roast when the kids are a bit older I'll be sensible and have one type. Maybe.

Babysafari Thu 14-Jul-16 18:55:13

Ah but you don't roast all your vegetables, do you? We only roast certain veg and steam the rest so that logic doesn't work.

CantChoose Thu 14-Jul-16 18:55:35

Never. But I have friends who do. They are all northern originally, is it a regional thing?

RaspberryOverload Thu 14-Jul-16 18:55:49

My mum is the only person I know who does both.

I never do. Roasties only.

Balletgirlmum Thu 14-Jul-16 18:56:19

Sometimes we have mash & roasts & boiled.

RiverTam Thu 14-Jul-16 18:57:04

Never ever mash with a roast. We sometimes had boiled and roasties, but never mash. Mash is with sausages.
