Is NOT the sign of an honest and straightforward sort but someone with no fucking manners? Hmm

It's an unpleasant and aggressive way of saying 'I like you' I suppose Confused. Weird.

Yanbu. It really fucks me off when people say this-it's so aggressive and unnecessary in most instances.

YANBU

Same as "You know where you are with me."

And "I believe in calling a spade a spade."

'I'm just really honest, that's who I am. Take it or leave it.'
Yeah, you're a rude twat.

'I'm dead honest, me' means 'I am a rude bastard who cares not a jot if I offend, or upset, because my views are paramount'

YANBU

It's the same as "I say it as it is".

Get some manners Angry

In my experience it's used as an excuse for rudeness, but when they really don't like you they don't actually have the guts to tell you why they don't like you.

Oh I've been saying this for years!

I always want to retort with 'And what makes you think anyone gives a flying fuck whether you like them or not?' Grin

Member of my family likes to give an opinion about everything and when its offensive says "I'm not criticizing - it's just my opinion"

True it is just your opinion to which you are entitled but Manners Maketh the Person and not every opinion you have should be shared outside your own head - it can be your opinion AND a criticism And therefore extremely offensive [eg. Your breast milk is making him sick - the doctors are indulging you - there is no such thing as reflux - you should feed him from a bottle - it's just my opinion"]

Argh "I say it how it is" really aggravates me, because no, you don't. You say it you perceive it to be and it's your enormous ego that prevents you from even contemplating a different viewpoint... I avoid people who say things like this as much as humanly possible!!!

I find the 'speak as I find' don't usually like it when you reciprocate.

That is always on the tip of my tongue too.

"I speak as I find."

Oh lordy. I worked with a woman who used to say that all the fucking time.

She didn't even use it correctly, she imagined slights everywhere;

"Tech still haven't fixed x. What can we do as a work round?"

"I speak as a I find"

"Jim brought the meeting forward to Thursday did you see?"

"I speak as I find"

"Helen's looking peaky. I hope it's not going rund the office."

"I speak as I find".

I was so close to locking her in a blooming stockroom.

Eurgh I really find people who think honesty gives them an excuse to be plain nasty, totally repulsive. My ex best friend was like this would frequently say 'don't ask me a question if you don't want to hear the truth' blah blah, she turned out to be the biggest manipulator ever!

That being said, I am trying to work on being more assertive and say what I feel out loud. Years of not sticking up for myself has led me to regret not being more 'rude' Blush

Oh God, THIS!! Which is why I love to reciprocate, and then act all 'but, but, but you said you speak as you find so I thought I'd return the compliment!' Grin
