DS "can't go to school because of his blister"

How on earth do I get him to go? He has a blister on his toe, that's bad, but he is refusing to go because it hurts too much. Help?

Do you have a lovely comfy sandal that you could lend him? That'll show him you mean business..

Put him in sandals (or whatever shoe style doesn't rub) and give him a note to explain the footwear choice.

Pop the blister and put a plaster over it, it'll feel fine then. Or tell him he has to go in flip-flops!

I suppose you could view it as a positive that he is putting lots of effort and acting ability into trying it on

Ds1 who is 9 recently had a lovely infected nail bed with a huge blistery fluid collection at the end of his toe which spread to cellulitis all up his shin. It was magnificent. He missed half an hour ish of school when I took him to the nurse to have it lanced and dressed but the rest of the time was in school with a pair of old trainers on that had a hole in the end so they didn't put pressure on his toe.

Sandals is a great idea, no way would he want to be seen dead in socks and sandals.

Quite simple... "You are going to school, its a blister! Get dressed and ready darling (and sort yourself out!)". This is a non issue. Who has time off for a blister?! Should we all take leave for a paper cut? Parent the child.

Blisters can be incredibly painful so at the very least he needs a Compeed or similar plaster on it. Clearly he also needs new shoes, or better socks.

Is it definitely a blister? As a child I once had an infected cuticle on a toe. It was very painful and I spent the day shuffling around and eventually got sent to the Gp to have the pus drained.

FInally when calibrating your sympathy levels remember that kids at school are incredibly active. It's not like they can "take it easy" or "keep the weight off it" like an office worker.

Well clearly if a blister is causing a need for a post on mn....and not a plaster and an "off you go" then you're not. Its a blister!! My nephew goes to school every day with a severe illness, his mum is an angel who pushes for a normal life for her son. A blister!! Get a grip.

Can he walk or does he find it hard to walk.

I'd take him to doctor.

Thank God children of 12 don't fight in wars, in this country! What has that to do with this!
