Nursery school uniform, do you buy it?

Just curious, as DS is starting nursery in September. There's bags, jumpers, polos, t shirts, etc.

I don't think I'm going to bother. Do you buy it?

School nursery? I did buy polo shirts and a cardigan, my son loved them and it was the only thing that made him want to attend.

I liked the uniform as it meant I didn't need to think what mine had to wear and it doesn't matter if it got dirty so saved their normal clothes!

Our school nursery doesn't wear uniform but many local schools do and it's not optional

Yep. Two sweatshirts and three polo shirts. He LOVES them and they've helped him feel like he fits in. He also looks incredibly cute in it! The logo changes slightly for reception, I will miss his first uniform.

I wouldn't have bothered with a book bag because he only takes in a change of clothes for emergencies, which wouldn't fit in a book bag. I will get him one for reception though. The school also offer backpacks and fleeces etc. They're not mandatory but I see a lot of children in them.

Yes definitely. They do all wear them at ours; but definitely not the branded stuff. They grow too quickly and get filthy. Most items are a couple of quid at Asda.

My DD has been kitted out in uniform for September. All the kids wear it plus also it saves me putting her in our good clothes that we have for her.

Just polo shirts as it didn't matter if they got covered in paint ect.

I just got the school sweatshirts and then supermarket polo shirts and shorts. Also got the school PE t-shirts. I've carried that on all the way through school.

Yes, ours wasn't optional, and tbh it's easier, cheaper and the kids love wearing them.

They all wear uniform at my DC's nursery. I only bought logo sweatshirt, book bag and PE top though. The rest is from high street. I begrudge every penny spent on uniform tbh.

No I literally just ignored that email... It's about half and half at ours so am not sure why they bother really.

I did as he was going to the school eventually so I thought it would get him used to it. He loves wearing his and about 80% of the class wear it too. He only wears a standard white polo shirt and a school jumper.

I have always bought my kids a nursery uniform. You will likely find that it is compulsory at least on any nursery outings in order to easily and quickly identify pupils. And if your child's nursery is anything like ours, they'll be off on walks and trips almost every week.

We did have one parent who didn't want her girl in a uniform like all the others and when another kid "painted" hers, she wanted compensation for the outfit off the artist child's mum. The mum said she would pay what a uniform t shirt costs and no more. The teacher agreed. Uniforms in nursery are pretty much play clothes and are expected to get messy.

Our daughter had two of the sweatshirts. I bought her cheaper (and softer, better quality) plain polo shirts and stitched on the school badges (the school shop sells them), and also plain jogging bottoms without any logo. Coat, gloves, trainers, etc. all non-regulation but in the correct colours. Her "spare" set of clothes for emergencies was basically the same as the school uniform but without the logos.

Everything was named inside in two different places, but stuff still went missing from time to time. The teachers were very good; I think a few of the parents just didn't bother to return stuff that went home by accident.

Bag was deliberately non-regulation as it was much easier to spot in the corridor scrum! Fortunately, no one else bought the same one...

Luckily, her talented grandmother (my MIL) was able to make her two "babbies" * in the same blue and white gingham fabric as the school ones but with a better design so that she could take it on and off by herself more easily and it actually protected her uniform underneath from paint, food and other stains. Supergran!

Yes we did and everyone else in the nursery class wears uniform too. Bought all ours from tesco (online) - they give you the option to put the school logo on too

I think it's not compulsory-compulsory, but (a) the kids like it; (b) it gets them ready for school and (c) it doesn't matter if it gets covered and stained, so I see it as win=win.

Optional here. Put Dd in polo tops and sweatshirts but these are 2ND hand. Bottoms tend to be joggers or shorts in similar to school colour.
