AIBU?

To think about joining the Conservative Party

(Even though I disagree with almost everything they stand for?)

I grew up in a not well-off household and my values were always very left-wing (fiercely so)

I can't even believe I am thinking of joining the Tories, but I want a say in who is next PM.

I think yabu to want to join the conservatives if you do not agree with their politics. The parties have always decided their own leaders though!

YANBU, I've thought of doing the same.

I loathe TM, but AL seems to have a similar disregard for human rights.

Too late - you need to have been a member for 3 months to have a vote in the leadership debate.

Rather scared that the subset of the population who are conservative members will choose the next PM, this is the lot who thought Ian Duncan Smith would be a good pm.....

Seriously considering becoming a member of all parties so I can have a say in future leadership decisions.

I wondered the same thing, but I don't think I'd actually be able to look at myself in the mirror afterwards. And what if people found out that you were a member GrinShock...

It is strange though, isn't it? - that the next PM will be chosen by the Conservative Party, not by the electorate.

Your too late. If you join now you won't be eligible to vote.

Why do you want a say? conservatives are pretty much the same.
Either one will be another Thatcher, they make the rich richer and the poor poorer, with historical evidence.

You have to be a member for at least three months to vote in the leadership election.

I will be voting for Theresa May.

You need to have been a member for 3 months before you can vote in a leadership election.

And I think it's 3 months before the contest is called (not before the date the grassroots party actually votes)

YABU to even think about it for any reason.

Shinynewusername WTF?

Also - three months? That's insane - I'm already a Labour member, so might do as Waxy suggests and join all three.

When do you think we'll get an election?

Too late as others have pointed out.

I hope you recover from this sad thought.

Gordon bloody Brown wasn't voted in by any party members.

I don't think you're meant to join more than one political party are you?

gingham, I know it's not unheard of Grin, it is odd though.

They might not let you join if you're a current Labour Party member.

No it isn't insane it stops the entriests.

You can't be a member of all. Labour t&c state you can't be a member of another party.

Join UKIP instead. I think they have some interesting issues.

When people were joining the Labour Party to vote for/against Corbyn the party did refuse some people membership, being a former Tory was a possible ground for refusal.

Shiny that Andrea Thingy looks a right piece of work.

Guessing she's more unelectable than May so I'd vote for her. ;o) Shame Gove fell by the wayside. He'd have been a disaster for them.

That poem. Not that AL thinks in stereo-types at all.

And she will think about everyone in stereo-types, and not seeing poor people as anything other than cannon fodder.

I'm still pissed off BoJo ended up to be such a coward!!! I wanted him to go down with the sinking ship that is this country when article 50 is eventually invoked.

How would any given party know you are a member of another party?

Cross checks I presume.

People have been thrown out for it.
