Seems to have been the work of a spanner spammer.

My guess is a stressed out new mum with a pfb frantically googling whether or not to buy socket covers.

I did see them

All the links proving their statements were true with the nhs link as a good back up.

Why not just start a brand new thread instead of bumping up 7 year old ones?

Was just about to post the same thing - why are all the posts being deleted?

No, it isn't. It's International Bikini Day. True fact.
I've got mine on, I suggest we all get ours out of the dressing up box and spam pics of ourselves on years' old threads.

I believe they are being reported as spam.
The poster is a mumsnetter who has a long standing interest in the subject and has been campaigning for years and years to get dangerous devices removed from certain venues and raise awareness, that has finally happened I expect she/he is pleased with the outcome and treating it as an update on threads where it has been talked about

I wouldn't be seen dead in a Bikini these days Gazelda!

I'd look like I needed ironing.

It's also International Apple Turnover day.

Unfortunately I won't have time to make eat any as I'm too busy child proofing my bikini house.

It's not a spammer or pfb mum, it's the helpful PigletJohn.

Fwiw I think updating the zombie threads is helpful in this circumstance as they are the pages that come up when you google socket covers and so many people still use them.

I had to google socket covers. Hadn't heard of them until today.

Would never have occurred to me that a plastic, insulated socket which was turned off would be a danger.

yes it's a new advisory from the Dept of Health wrt plug covers:

"This Alert is issued to highlight how, in certain circumstances, the use of plastic 13A(13 amp) electrical socket inserts (sold as safety accessories) can overcome the safety features designed into socket outlets.

13A electrical socket inserts should not be used in health or social care premises, nor supplied for use in a home or residence. Any socket inserts currently in use should be withdrawn from use and responsibly disposed of."

I have inferred from this that plug covers [socket inserts] are unsafe in domestic situations too

I have a damaged socket from using a socket cover in it. The little covers that should come over the neutral and live don't any more. I've glued a cover over it till we get round to replacing the whole unit. I don't use socket covers any more.

if it is PJ, he talks sense and is doing the right thing to deal with these threads, otherwise the danger of socket covers will stay on MN.

and about bloody time too. If you've been using them, chuck them and get your sockets checked because they may be damaged.

easy solution is for MN to delete old threads, or to put something on the side bar of this page rather than endless disgusting artificial sweetener recipes. I won't suggest the MN home page as very few look at that.
