AIBU to be upset (possibly hormonal!)

Hi
I'm due DC2 soon. We have kept the first name secret but decided to tell both sets of parents the middle names as the middle names are the names of my father in law and my grandad. We thought it would be nice for them to know this. Father in law was delighted and my dad was chuffed as its his dad whose name we used.
However since then my dad is insisting that he will call baby by his middle name instead of first name as he likes the middle name (my grandad a name)?!
I'm upset by this. Surely I'm not being unreasonable to expect people (especially close family!) to call DC2 by his actual first name?

AIBU? If not, has anyone else had throat and how did you deal with it?

It's quite rude, and I'd be tempted to say to your dad that if the middle name is going to create problems, you'll have to choose something else.

I'd ask him how he would have felt if your Grandmother/grandfather had decided to call you Mary/Sue/Not the name he and your mum chose.

If he really intends to call him a different name from every one else then he's being a bit daft tbh. It's not for him to decide what your child is to be called.

As pp said, tell him in that case you won't use that name as a middle name and the name will be lost.

I wouldn't worry about it. He says that, but when the baby is here and everyone else is calling him by his first name, your dad will probably just fall in with them and end up doing the same. And if he does call him by his middle name, could that not just be their special thing between them, that he calls him by a different name from what everyone else does?
He's probably just really happy about the name and that's why he's saying that, but maybe it's best to wait and see what unfolds when the baby's actually here.
My dad called my DS a particular name for a while when he first born (a nickname to do with my dad) but after a few months he calls him by his regular name like everyone else (without me having to say anything, it just happened).

Thank you. I'm annoyed as DH and I love the choice of name but my Dad keeps saying nothing will be as good as the middle name?! Strange behaviour!!

Get your to start calling your Dad by his middle name, see how he likes it.

Otherwise ignore, as soon as he's talking you can train your DS up to say "Grandpa don't be silly that's not my name" every time he does it.

Also perhaps ask your Dad how he'd feel if your FIL started doing the same thing. Is the poor child expected to answer to 3 names?

It's just odd and I'm glad I'm not BU as I'm never sure if it's the hormones!
