Going to Cornwall - rain most of the week !

Was really looking forward to it but rain is forecast most of the week !
We are in a caravan - any ideas of nice things to do -near st Ives
We have very little money - had planned to walk each day .

Keep a close eye on the detailed forecast. We used to go to Cornwall regularly. Often if it's rainy on the South coast, it might be ok on the West coast.

Loads and loads of art galleries, if that's your thing. Porthmeor studios, the Leach Pottery is small but lovely, also Penlee House gallery in Penzance. Best thing aboit Tate St Ives is the view out if the building, in my opinion. Geevor tin mine and the Telegraph Museum in Porthcurno are great if you like museums. Personally I think Cornwall is wonderful in the rain, and I wouldn't let it put me off walking or getting to the beaches. Best beach spot in St Ives itself is Porthgwidden; for some reason it's always so much quieter than the others. Godrevy beach near Hayle is also lovely.

A really good thing to do is press your nose against the glass of the window whist the rain comes down, daydreaming about what your life would be like if you had married that banker you met all those years back. And then drink neat gin out of a plastic mug.

Ha ha flapping! Yes, you'd be on a long haul to the Seychelles with a distraught baby and tantruming toddler wondering why your fellow travellers look so pissed off!

Best hol as a child was in Cromer in the rain. We walked along the beach and paddled at the same time as we couldn't get any wetter!

I went to a lovely holiday cottage in North Wales with family, parents, siblings, the lots. It pissed with rain the whole time. Jigsaws, so many fucking jigsaws. And fucking Monopoly.

I drank lots of gin.

Do you have waterproofs? If so, do your walking but find some circular walks with a pub half way round where you can dry off/shelter for a bit. There are so many lovely walks in Cornwall.

st Ives is lovely even in the rain! You'll have fun.

Get some wet weather clothes and just do what you would have done if it wasn't raining.
Beaches are lovely when it is raining because they are empty, then the sun comes out for a bit and you have it all to yourself (then it rains again). Had Porthcurno all to ourselves one sunny afternoon in July, that was quite special.
Moors are lovely in the rain too. Madron wishing tree & ruined chapel and the men-an-tol have been popular with the dc. Nice pub and old church in Zennor and lovely Sennen cove up the road with good beach cafe.

For in the caravan I agree with flapping's method.

Ooh yes, Sennen Cove is wonderful. Have very happy memories of a rainy, windswept visit there one October day. We saw seals bobbing up and down in the swell. There is a fab restaurant on the beach.

Spent many holidays in St Ives. It often defies the weather forecast and seems to have its own microclimate. Post again when you're there to let us know!

We are going home tomorrow, been on the north coast for a week.

Firstly, the weather forecast is changing literally by the hour, so don't trust it! See how it is each morning. Loads of days it's said it was going to be heavy rain all day, and actually it's turned out to be light showers and pretty warm.

We went to Eden Project, you can get tickets with Tesco vouchers so it only costs £8 per adult instead of £25. Not sure how long the tickets take to come through though.

We just got on with our planned stuff really, so put wellies and rain gear on where necessary. We swam in the outdoor pool on the campsite today in the rain, pool was heated and DD has a wetsuit so we just got on with it. She told me this evening that was her favourite thing of the holiday.

Stuff like the Minack Theatre and Land's End are free to walk around. There are some paid attractions but the places themselves are free to enter. We climbed St Michael's Mount in the rain, it was actually quite nice, cooled us off on the walk.

Only thing that had upset us was not getting to the beach, but then this morning randomly turned out to be utterly glorious (forecast to be cloudy!) and we had a lovely 3 hours paddling and building sandcastles.

And if all else fails, take a good book and sit in your caravan drinking nice wine and eating a metric tonne of scones and clotted cream.

Wine/gin and scones sounds like an excellent plan. Just make sure your jam is on the bottom and your cream is on the top!

Yy to godrevy, beautiful Long beach you could walk for miles! Just watch the tides!

Also, definitely pack waterproofs. We spend a week every year in a cottage in Hayle. The weather is often predicted to be drizzly but often the sea mist clears to be the most gorgeous days. For the times this doesn't happen, we don our waterproofs and take the DC to the rock pools. They will spend hours (while I'm shivering impatiently!) just carefully and quietly waiting and catching crabs.

I don't see from your op that you have DC though. If we didn't have ours, we would be happy to do coastal walks from pub to pub in the rain - the landscape is just gorgeous.

We have paid a few years in a row now at lands end, it's been turned into something of a 'theme park' albeit with no rides. But a 4D movie, farm, and a couple of other attractions. They also have hot donuts!
Dp takes the dds every year out on a mackerel fishing tour for a couple of hours, although they don't go out in high winds. They bring the fish home and cook them while I rush out to get chips from the chippy!

There truly are loads of pretty places to visit if you have transport and, while I know st Ives is very popular, we have found it to be just too crowded and fairly unenjoyable sadly. However, lots of little shops, bars and restaurants to spend a day in, aswell as a Tate gallery!

Dh and I are due to holiday in East Anglia next week without our teenagers. We are planning to do lots of walking and beaches, but also have a back-up plan that if the weather's dreadful, we're going to drink lots of prosecco and stay in bed all day. I'm rather hoping for a couple of days of rain

We are staying at mawgan porth for part of the time too
It's just Dh n I as he has just started a stressful job and needs time to walk n cycle
Dc are late teens and stay at home for first time
If anyone can recommend walks from beach to pub to beach that sounds fab and I Wd really appriciate it !!! Anywhere between mawgan porth and st Ives Wd be so helpful as I have limited research time now as doing shop n cook for dc
We normally walk the coast I didn't think of Inland n pubs - thanks so so much !!!!!!!

Is it next week? Just looked on bbc weather for me (west cornwall) it it looks not too bad, unsettled on Monday but dry & cloudy for the rest of the week.
