Not sure if the page I've seen is the one you meant to link to.

I don't see a problem with it, what's annoying you?

There aren't any pictures apart from that big red logo thing.

Because the boys do the building and the girl does the cleaning? Meh, agree it's bad but at least the other categories aren't gendered. it's so insidious I fail to get worked up about it.

There are no picture?

T0ddlerSlave · 29/06/2016 19:22

Ah if you view on mobile view you don't see the pics.

Yep, boy in the construction pic and girl in the cleaning pic. It's shit and shouldn't still be happening.

Report
Amummyatlast · 29/06/2016 19:24

Ok, it may not work if you are using a phone.

There's a link to 'building roleplay' toys with a smiling boy. There's a link to 'cleaning roleplay' toys with a smiling girl. The cleaning toys are also pink. To be fair there are then two further pictures for cooking and shopping roleplay with boys and girls, but even on the cooking roleplay the boy is made to look like a chef whereas the girl is not.

please don't tell its because they have a little girl playing with a pink cleaning set and a boy with a construction set because it is yabu and if it's not I apologise.

Report
Amummyatlast · 29/06/2016 19:33

Why can't they have a boy and girl in each of the pictures? My DD has actually has cleaning toys, but this is because she likes to pretend to be like her daddy (who does 95% of the cleaning).

YANBU.

It is part of a global trend of stereotyping in society. Kids are really sensitive to this sort of pigeon-holing, and it damages both sexes.

Here we go. There's a girl sat down eating while the boy does the cooking. I might complaint to Argos that I'm upset that there no one to cook my tea when I get home.

It's irritating, and shouldn't really happen, but I don't think I could get too worked up about it.

YANBU.
This is about what images/perceptions we give our children. In this day and age it shouldn't be this way. Pink cleaning toys teach them that cleaning is for girls. It's rubbish. It seems that gender stereotyping has come full circle - in the 80's / 90's there was a move against pink for girls and blue for boys etc. Now suddenly even kinder eggs are pink for girls etc, Lego has pink for girls etc etc.

YABU. It's just how you would associate each toy to a child, doesn't mean they can't play with either. Hell, I used to love playing with my brothers toy garage. A picture in an Argos catalogue never made me feel like I couldn't!
