Swearing on Mumsnet

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

There are no rules against swearing.

I really dislike it when people put kisses at the end of their posts...

Because it's fucking funny. And I'm a sweary cunt in RL too.

Personally I think it's the same as swearing in every day life. Used in a considered way it can emphasise a particular point well. Used willy nilly it looses power.

I fucking love swearing

Try netmums maybe?

Sirzy · 29/06/2016 16:36

Because they want To? Because it's a forum for adults?

I am not sweary by nature but I am not going to get offended by the odd swear word either on here or in real life!

I don't get why (on netmums) starring out words is any better. Everyone knows exactly what it 'should' say.

I dont think people should swear just for the sake of it but i do like a well placed " oh do fuck off dear " when somebodys being goady net mums can be ludicrous in that it doesnt allow swearing at all but people can be really nasty and bitchy over there and often dont get called on it.

I'm more offended by the xxx than the swearing

I don't like it, personally. But mumsnetters seem to think that by swearing they have one over on net mums and are being all big and clever. I view it as I think most people do in the real world. Effective when used wisely, yet speaks volumes when someone can't string a sentence together without every other word being an expletive.
Of course there are also the upper class ones who think it's funny to do/say what they want.

It always surprises me that they happily use the c and t word. Surely any feminist would know that to use the female genitalia as a term of abuse just isn't on.....
