I enjoy coming on MN and partaking in friendly debates with other posters, I'm always open to other people's opinions and I think MN is unique in that it offers perspectives from people in all different walks of life, old, young, parents, grandparents, all sorts of classes and upbringing can come here and air their views

of course people are going to have different view, we've all been brought up with our own values and place importance on different things, I don't understand why people get personally upset when people have different views to them, it doesn't make anyone wrong or better it's just life! Everyone's different! It's always on posts that aren't really particularly 'important'

I enjoy hearing other sides and often see the merit of their argument whether I come round to their thinking of not! But some people seem to take it as an insult of people don't agree and seem to think there's a right or wrong when often there isn't!

I love a good debate too, and it is one of the things I like about mn.

What drives me mad though is irrationality, where people are saying xx is not true and someone persists with I believe it.

Also, personal attacks, you see this a lot on religious and politics threads. Where one person will say 'I don't believe in fairies which is what God is,' or everyone who voted xx is an idiot.

Lastly, people who don't RTFT. Stop the cheque is a good example of that.
Love threads where there is genuine discussion and debate and I have even changed my mind on occasion!

I agree step mum I have also changed my mind on occasion and I am always open to do so.

The thing I find funny is, you would expect people to get passionate about politics and such, but the ones where people seem to get the most personal and the most angry are often things which really have no actual significance to RL and people don't seem to accept that there is no right and wrong it's just personal opinion, you think a, I think b, doesn't make one of us better than the other!

I used to love doing philosophy at college, my favourite thing was when we were made to argue the opposite point to what we believed, very interesting and challenging :)

you are right about people getting wound up about trivis. I guess I was thinking about the current EU threads and how nasty they are.

Well yes, definitely that as well! I feel worn out with all the talk of the eu, it's very draining, I think everyone should just take a 5 minute tea break and have a breather :)
