And that he's a hypocrite for claiming a monthly salary of £6k+?

Especially as he claims:
"We've left behind a failed political union. We can now rejoin the world as an independent, self-governing nation."

Ukip have achieved their aim and we are out of the eu - Farage should be claiming JSA!

The bloke was a turkey voting for Christmas really. I'm not a fan of his at all.

I don't believe that anyone should stand for election to a body they claim not to believe in.

That applies mainly to Farage, but he isn't alone in ever having done something like that.

He is a hypocrite. UKIP has over 20 MEPs (including Farage) in a European Union it purports not to believe in.

but we won't have any MEPs so they would be sacked anyway wouldn't they?

They will continue for a few years.

Given that the majority f the voting electorate who chose to vote voted Leave then any MEP should now be working hard to ensure we leave with as much as we can get. Farage will still have a job to do... then he can sign in for JSA!

He should never have been allowed to stand...

He's spent years making sure that because of him and his party we don't fully participate in the EU and don't get to use our voice within it, then campaigning to voters about leaving the EU because we don't have a strong enough voice in it.

It's ridiculous that he's ever been an MEP.

It's ridiculous that he was even an MEP in the first place and yes, he should step down immediately. I doubt he will though. Hopefully they'll sack him soon.

So......... you want to ignore democracy just becasue you don't like the legally elected person.

Whatever you think of Farage he hasn't done anything, isn't responsible for anything... he is acting according to his electorate mandate... so he is doing what a sizeable number of UK citizens want him to do.

  • before you flame me, remember you have no idea how I voted. I have not said, and won't. I am just bewildered by the sheer weight of people who, whilst they have every right to be disappointed if the results weren't what they wanted, now seem to want to dismantle the democratic process to get what they want.

Blanche - he's fought for UK independence - surely that's at odds with him being an MEP? It doesn't really matter what why you voted this is about him being an MEP for a system that he wanted out of?

"I don't see how we can have UK MEPs voting on leglisation that will not affect the UK. I think that applies to ALL UK MEPS."

Well in fairness he votes less than half the time anyway.

My perception of UKIP MEPs is that they claim every allowance going then don't actually turn up to any debates or committees, so not so much representing their constituents as milking the system for as much as they can before bringing it crashing down.

I could be wrong of course.

With this history, it doesn't seem likely that they will resign as MEPs before they have to, although logically the party should be disbanded now please Grin

You might have misunderstood the voting process...

Why shouldn't there be MEPs who want independence? Would the EU be better or only having believers? Who would apply checks and measures? Who would question policies if only those who agreed with them took part?

And who is to say UK MEPs will be allowed to vote on non UK issues? And why is the irony of that lost on many, mainly Scottish people, when you consider their attitude towards the UK parliament and question of an English parliament? That circumstance already exists

"Why shouldn't there be MEPs who want independence?"

Because they weren't/aren't doing any of this stuff...

"Who would apply checks and measures? Who would question policies if only those who agreed with them took part?"

They were/are not taking part in votes, not attending, actually creating the lack of a British voice in the EU that they were complaining about.

Ah! Acting like the non voting electorate, you mean?

Report
babybythesea · 25/06/2016 14:50

He was a member of the EU Fisheries thing/board/whatever it's called. He went to one out of about 40-odd meetings, which meant that the UK had no voice, and then he complained about it to the voters.

He wanted independence, ok. He didn't do the job he got paid to do though. I'd like him to have been sacked for that. Just like everybody else who didn't do the job they were paid for.

The fact he used it to limit our voice and then used that as a campaigning point was morally bankrupt but I wouldn't expect anything more from him.

Report
OurBlanche · 25/06/2016 14:55

I wasn't talking about the man... just the concept of MEPs who want independence.

I wasn't conflating the two! I don't disagree with what you say about the man!

"Ah! Acting like the non voting electorate, you mean"

No, I mean deliberating creating the very same situation he then used to campaign with.

OurBlanche · 25/06/2016 15:03

Erm... that would be his job, tabulah. All politicians do that! You wouldn't vote for one who did not work towards the changes he was elected to see through!
