Wearing bikini on holiday...

I have stretch marks and a bit of a wobbly tummy.
Is it unreasonable to want to wear a bikini on holiday?

I mean I know there are plenty of other ''sights'' that you see on holiday but I don't want to be included in them if wearing a bikini with stretch marks and a wobbly tummy is not the done thing

I've bought high waist bottoms just in case.

I think you'll look daft, but my last holiday was Edinburgh in January. If you're going somewhere more appropriate for such attire then just wear the bloody bikini. Oh and those "sights" are just other human bodies, nothing to worry about.

Abroad, I think not. You see all shapes and sizes on the beach and it's always the British women covering up.

In this country I wouldn't.

Wear what you want as long as you feel OK in it, sod anyone else - if they don't like it they don't have to look.

Wear one if you will feel confident, but of you are going to wear it and compare other peoples 'better' bodies against your own, I wouldn't bother as it will make you feel self conscious. The fact you're asking makes me think you shouldn't. Although I can assure you, nobody will be taking any notice. I never go on holiday and look at other people and think oh god the state of her or whatever.

Where are you going OP?

We often holiday on the Costa Blanca in a place where lots of city dwelling Spaniards go on holiday.

There, everyone is wearing a bikini, right up to 80 year old. A few elders are in one pieces but it's overwhelmingly bikinis regardless of sags, bags and wobbly bits.

I think you'll be fine. Just take a cover up/kaftan thing that you can whip off when you realise that it doesn't matter and it's really quite liberating.

I wear bikinis on holiday, I'm a size 16 with wobbly bits, stretch marks, scars, the lot. I don't care and if people are horrified at the sight if me, they hide it well. Enjoy yourself and get a nice tanned tum.

I always feel shy about the idea of bikinis but it never seems so bad once you're on the beach - it's so clear that there a people of all ages of shapes and everyone's enjoying the sun. Enjoy your holiday!

Oh gosh don't worry. I wear a bikini and am a 16 with lots of pale and untoned flab.

I still think s bikini looks better than a one piece and it's certainly more comfortable!

Buy a bikini you like and feel good in and you genuinely won't be out of place abroad.

I wear them whatever my size. My stretch marks and flabby belly don't bother me that much. And I spend zero time comparing myself.

If you won't feel comfortable wearing it, maybe you shouldn't. But if you are simply worried about what others think, be aware that they don't care.

I have never ever owned a bikini and I am determined I will wear one next summer, we have a villa so only my family who will see me!

Working hard to shed the pounds in the meantime!

I live in Valencia, Spain, and I have never felt happier about my body than I do now!

Ok, I've just found out that I'm pregnant, but even leaving that aside: in the gym changing rooms and on the beaches you see ALL SORTS. Toppless everywhere! I look at the boobs (and bums, and tummies, and "down there hair styling") MUCH more than my DH does, lol! He just sees a load of semi-naked people. I can't get enough of noticing how "normal" I look! I think I grew up with too many "photoshopped/styled" women in adverts and films, etc, and I think this is the first time that I've ever seen real nearly naked people. I thought I was the only person who looked like me, but everyone looks like me! Noone looks like Kate Moss! (ok, there are always a couple of young women who look like they just stepped out of an advert, but they can be counted on one hand, on a beach full of hundreds of women)

If that makes sense...?

So I vote YES to the bikini!

Also: depending on where you'll be going - you might feel too conspicuous for being the only woman who's not in a bikini!

Stop worrying about it!
I'm a size 20 at the moment, I've got my bikini's and a tankini ready for my holiday. I couldn't give a damn what anyone else is thinking or wearing, the only person I want eyeing me up is Dh. If people are judgemental about me then that's their problem, I'm certainly not looking or judging anyone else.

Life is too short. We all have body issues, whether you're a 20 or an 8. Stick your bikini on, sun cream and go and have an awesome time!

a couple of years ago I only took one-piece swimsuits to Italy, and I honestly felt that I might as well have been wearing an overcoat - every single other woman (young/old/pale/leathery/bigger/smaller) was in a bikini

This is a very uplifting thread for me! I'm not mahoosive but my tummy is definitely not what it was before kids! Was thinking of a bikini and this has given me the confidence to think 'fuck it, if DH and the kids don't care then nor should I or anyone else'!

Go for it. I remember a few years ago we were in Portugal and I was in a one piece as I was feeling fat (and still was half a stone lighter than now) I looked round and the only people in one pieces were very, very old, so now I generally wear a bikini and just try to forget about it.

This holiday I will be wearing my costume as sharing villa with two best friends and family. They are both lovely and petite and I look like the jolly green giant beside them and as they wear a costume I tend to as well.

Go far it, apart from anything else I think my wobbly tummy looks better with a tan!

I have stripes on my hips and a less than firm and flat tummy. But even when I did I found swimming costumes far more unflattering while bikinis can be more personalised to flatter different body types - small boobs and big thighs when I was pre baby, now I need a more full and supportive bra and short type bottoms give more coverage (and means less brutal hair removal needed), high waisted shorts would be even better!

But some people will always judge while others will be too worried about themselves. It would be lovely to be wobbly and wrinkly and not care at all.
