AIBU?

AIBU to not want people vaping in school?

As in members is staff? I am a staff member too, but every time I go into the school office, principals office or staff room I'm greeted by plumes of vape. Sad

I've complained before that I don't think it is acceptable in a school and doesn't look professional. The response to my complaint was for all the vapers to blow smoke in my face and laugh saying "don't be ridiculous it isn't harmful."

I don't really know or care if it's harmful or not, I just hate it. I hate eating my lunch or drinking tea in this sort of environment.

AIBU and a grouch?

I vape and I agree with you, I dont vape anywhere I couldnt smoke.

Im suprised the smoking policy alliws it though.

I also vape and also agree it should be kept to where smoking is allowed.

I don't ever vape somewhere I can't smoke. For other people but also because I want to quit. It will be harder if I just constantly vape. I prefer to go out of my way to do it.

I'm shocked that it's allowed! Certainly isn't at ours!

I'm shocked that they laugh and blow it at you. It's easy to "stealth vape" in such a way that nobody notices it. I've vaped on numerous flights, even. It would be upsetting to see a plume of "smoke" in a contained space so I can do it so that nobody sees it.

Most ecigs produce relatively little vapour. But there's a high powered version that creates dragon plumes and I have smelled it and seen an atmospheric fog when in a vape shop where several people are doing that. If that's what they're doing that's incredibly rude.

Now if someone just sees the thing in my hand and objects to the idea that I'm vaping, then I shrug them off.

I didn't realise there was variation in the vapour clouds produced by different types. I watched with intrigue a few months ago when it was a day when you could see your breath anyway and someone vaping made a gigantic cloud.

It doesn't seem appropriate to be doing indoors in the work place office in the same way you wouldn't spray your perfume - the flavour/smell can trigger some people's asthma. But then some people hate the smell of coffee and hate entering places where it can be smelled.

Our 'No Smoking' policy was re-written almost instantly to say 'cigarettes, cigars, vaping instruments or any other related smoking paraphernalia' as people tried to vape in the canteen!
Massive Are you allowed to vape on planes? I thought it was banned? I thought the safety brief said 'no smoking of any sort' when I flew the other day, however I don't, so may not have been listening properly!

Dh has a powerful one. He was parked up once waiting for me and so much smoke was coming out of the drivers side window, for split second I thought the car was on fire.

Mine doesn't produce anywhere near that amount of 'smoke' .

it is on every flight I have been on. However I have spotted a few people still doing it, but trying to hide it. On our last flight a woman pulled her hoodie up and stuffed her face against the corner. Grin

I vape and I've got a powerful machine and make a pretty dense looking clouds, I won't get technical but it also depends on the liquid you put in it too.
Out of habit or respect I don't do it anywhere where I couldn't smoke. A school staff room I don't think is on, I wouldn't vape in the office full stop. Is there a smoking policy? What does that say?

There isn't a school smoking policy.

They don't blow vape in my face every single time! There's no kind of intimation going on. It's more a case of 'they're harmless' don't be such a killjoy.

I just hate it.

Our workplace doesn't allow vaping in the building. One of the students at DD's school was caught vaping in the toilets and was excluded for a couple of days and barred from going to the school prom.

Really? Is there no guidance on smoking tobacco? (Apols I work somewhere where there's a policy on everything, and worked there so long I'm institutionalised)

I work for a LA and the no smoking policy was rewritten to include no vaping.

Report
Purplemonkeydishwasherpimp · 17/06/2016 07:21

Chottie same here.

Pretty sure the HSE would expect your work to have a smoking policy op

I sort of feel in my gut that it shouldn't be happening but because there is no inclination from HT to change it, I doubt it will change.

I don't really feel there is much I can do except moan here

There will be a smoking policy, if it's still a la school you follow theirs. Every school has one. Talk to salt.Your colleagues are hugely rude btw.
My son vapes, with one of those tank jobs, I walk into my house and it's like a foggy day off Scarborough and the sweet smell is awful.

That's terrible! Ew, I'd rather the smell of actual cigarettes over some of those sickly bubble gum flavoured vapes!

God, I must be a mushroom. I didn't even realise that this went on or was so widespread.

Vaping is big business, most of the smokers at my work vape now, the smell of tabacco now makes me wretch in the same way my "nutz" flavour probably does to smokers and none smokers. Out of respect I would make people suffer in a confined space. These people are really inconsiderate and that's from an ex smoker and full time ecig user!

agree, as a vaper, the vaping shouldnt be done in a confined space

Is this a non UK school? I'm astounded that your school doesn't have a policy on smoking/ vaping.

I cape and I love it. But I am worried that the twats creating massive, billowing clouds of vapour are going to get vaping banned. Outside the train station the other day, some idiot was dragon-like in his great rolling plumes of steam. And it smells, depending on which flavour you use.

If we all vaped discreetly and sensibly, it'd be an acceptable social habit. But carry on with the huge clouds, and it'll get banned everywhere.

Wow very surprised. Thought the schools no smoking policy would extend to vaping.

Colleagues sounds disgusting.

You could take a lynx spray and spray it at them whenever they are vaping :-)

Report
WalkingZed · 17/06/2016 08:50

I really like the idea of carrying a can of Lynx and spraying it every time someone vapes!! Grin
