Regarding gueens birthday

I'm seeing more amd more ridiculous "God save the queen" type posts on Facebook. Aibu to be sick and tired of it all. She's 90, big deal, lots didn't get to that age because of a lifetimes poverty and hard work. I mean real work not signing a few papers and getting chauffeured about.

I'm no royalist/monarchist, but it is an achievement of sorts - longest running monarch we've ever had.

No shame in wishing somebody a happy birthday either!

I'd like to see the monarchy abolished after her death but I couldn't get too bothered about this. Just block the posts you don't like for heaven's sake.

Massively well rewarded though Biwi No, no harm in wishing someone happy birthday, but she's not gonna read the ramblings that go on facebook . It's overkill as usual.

I do block them sooty, but I have to see them first before I can block. It's all on the telly too.

And fwiw, the queen has worked hard in her lifetime. At 90 I think its fair enough she just signs a few bits of paper and gets chauffered around.

Report
seagaze · 11/06/2016 15:16

That's all she's ever done mrsSpectre, she's had a lidfetime of excessive privilege, that's why she's so robust now.

Not a Royalist myself but cone from a family of avid Royalists.
I do not feel the need to let everyone know I am not a royalist. I do not think that makes me more alternative or interesting person.
I am always amused that the people who claim not to be interested in the royals are the people who talk about them the most

Even if she is chauffeured around the number of engagements she & Prince Philip carry out each year is amazing. Not all Royals live to her age so it's not just down to privilidge.

Slight irony in you starting a thread about hating posts/threads about her birthday

Just a pity it wasn't posted in the topic.

So that people who are fed up of if all can easily use the 'hide' function and not feel it's being mentioned at every turn.

Oh, hang on....

Its hard to escape it as it's been on TV/radio so much.I would like to see the volume of media output for Royals reduced. We've had too much coverage over the last few years.

I like the military ceremonies but it doesn't need to be royal themed.

GingerIvy · 11/06/2016 15:28

Here we go. Next will be those that drone on about how the royal family are all scroungers and "technically on benefits" blah blah blah

Seriously, get a life. This gets so incredibly old. The woman is 90. FFS, she has spent her entire adult life in service to the country. She has a more punishing schedule than any other royal at 90 year old. I think she's earned a bit of respect, as well as some birthday wishes.

If you don't want to do so, fine. Nobody is forcing you. But I hardly think whinging like a petulant child is necessary. Hmm

Since the Queen is head of the armed forces, it's a bit difficult to have a military ceremony without reference to her.

Does she have a birthday every week now?

I thought she had one not long ago?

Happy birthday, Queenie!

Did you join specifically to whinge about this?

If you become aware something like this is in the offing, just arrange a long weekend to Wales. Or Scotland. Or Ireland. The prevalent view will be less likely to involve street parties.

Same. This is the third that I'm vaguely aware of so far. I don't care about the Royals either way and I've managed to take no notice. I'm not on Facebook though.

I'm not into decking the house or baking for street parties (celebratory school picnic aside) but if people want to celebrate and flag-wave, well free country and all that.
But 90 years whoever you are, deserves a nod and I do hope she gets to enjoy a naice slice of Cake.
I would bet money that she isn't the one who wants the fuss though.

There is loads of stuff like this that gets big coverage that I don't care about. Just ignore it. Although for what it's worth not a single of my friends have posted anything on fb about her birthday, you clearly mix in the wrong royalist circles!
