AIBU?

AIBU to let baby sleep until 10am?

My DD is 7 months old and goes to bed around 8pm. She then sleeps until around 6 or 7am when she wakes for a feed. I then put her back down where she goes straight back to sleep until around 9.30-10am.
Some people have suggested that she ought to be getting up at 7 like 'normal' babies but she goes straight back down.
I also like to get my head down for that extra couple of hours. She also has at least 3 hours worth of naps in the day.
Am I doing the wrong thing?

If your routine works for you and baby, that's all that matters, it won't stay that way for long anyway.

Don't rock the boat!! She is 7mo. Guaranteed by the time she is 3 she will be waking at what other people deem a normal hour.

Enjoy it!

When dd arrived dh used to get up with her at 6.30, feed and bum change and swaddle her and pop her back down to sleep and go to work - I slept through all this and we both work together about 9.30. Lasted a while (not as long as you lucky duck!), and now I have DS I can't do that as I've got to be up for the elder one

And 3hr naps are fine too! DS is 21mo and will still nap 2.5-3 hours a day at least two or three times a week.

Can't see anything wrong with that at all - it sounds like a very blissful routine to be honest. Make the most of it! Smile

No you're doing great, my 7mo is similar. He has to be up for the school run during the week but he'd rather have a feed and go straight back down til 10.

Sounds great. Neither of mine slept that well but did go through phases of sleeping until 9.30, having been up several times in the night.
She obviously needs the sleep!

Your baby. People mean well. You know what works. I'm not jealous at all of you having a sleepy baby

Dd2 used to do that i had to drop her sister at school so she would just zed in her pram and wake up at 9.30 lasted till she was about 9 months i dont see why your baby needs to be up its not like she has a busy schedule Grin

It's fine! My toddler still does this. She wakes at 7, had a drink of milk then comes into my bed for a cuddle and we nap till half 9-10.

It works really well for us and when I go back to work in a few months, I'll be working lates so I get the morning with her. I wouldn't want her up at 6 when I don't get to bed until late! Sometimes I have to wake her up for our earlier baby groups but I do get a dirty look for it!
I'm glad you guys think it's fine. I'm very happy with the way it works and she's a very happy baby so we can't be doing too bad! Smile

Enjoy it! My daughter did the same at the age but it stopped when she turned 11 months. She wakes between 7 and 8 now.

Are you going to bed late op (in preparation for the new routine)? If you're not then you seem to need a lot of sleep would be my only thought

All babies are different, let them sleep when they want, would you want to be woken up before ready?

I currently go to bed about 11 and get up about 9 so yeah I do have a lot of sleep. I did think I'd have to give that up when she came along but she seems to have my habits already! If it's not good for her though I'll get up earlier and get into new habits. She comes first 😊

It sounds like a lovely routine and everyone's a winner Grin

Both of my DC's slept well and enjoyed their naps. If they didn't get enough day sleep they slept badly at night so I learned quickly to let them sleep as much as they needed to during the day.

You sleep for ten hours unless you have health issues why do you go back to bed when your baby does?

Report
MyKingdomForBrie · 15/06/2016 00:23

She sleeps from 11 til baby wakes for feed then goes back to sleep til about nine andnow - why the hell wouldn't she? Eight hours is a healthy minimum but many people benefit from a little more, she's only really getting about nine once she's done the 7am feed.

Not really the question OP was asking!

Enjoy it. I kept DS up till 11.30 (last feed) as a baby so he'd sleep in till 11. No adverse effects. Stopped when he started playgroup and had no problems going down earlier and waking earlier either. It's not like he could tell the time to know anyhow!

I didn't say it was a problem I was curious as to why as its unusual.

My DD was the same. Enjoy it while it lasts. Once she starts nursery, it's early mornings all the way until A levels (which I bloody hated cos I'm a night owl).

I love a good 10-hour sleep!
My toddler is like yours, OP. Breastfeeds at night but while she always wanted so early feed, she was never really awake-awake at 7, she'd have her milk and feed to sleep again until 9-10. Ignore all the loons who want to have you both up at an ungodly hour just because they are.

why would anyone keep a baby awake who wants to slee unless necessary . Having a tired grumpy baby is no fun for anyone.

I had a similar routine when I was working evenings. DC still isn't a nearly riser SmileSmile
