The only bottles we have are some I got for my birthday that I don't feel I should open on any old Friday just cos.

RNBrie Fri 10-Jun-16 18:48:05

bumbleymummy Fri 10-Jun-16 18:49:07

Oh I know what you mean! I have 'special' bottles that I like to keep for an occasion. Can you come up with an idea for an occasion? A reason to celebrate with a nice bottle of wine? smile

MidnightRunner87 Fri 10-Jun-16 18:49:15

Open it....there's not that many special Friday's to be hanging around for wine

NoCapes Fri 10-Jun-16 18:49:33

When else would you drink them?

You have bottles? Plural? Open one. It's Friday. Cause for celebration.
Be like the Queen and have more than one birthday!!

Abraiid1 Fri 10-Jun-16 18:50:47

And talking of the Queen, you could always say you were opening a special one to be patriotic?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Fri 10-Jun-16 18:51:07

Summerdays11 Fri 10-Jun-16 18:51:59

StealthPolarBear Fri 10-Jun-16 18:52:02

Bumbley do you know I managed to get two free conference places today. So yes...celebration!

StealthPolarBear Fri 10-Jun-16 18:52:38

NoT sure about the queen, did she do anything for mine?

KnockMeDown Fri 10-Jun-16 18:53:32

Also, it's not just any old Friday. Apart from being the Queen's official birthday, here is a link to more things to celebrate today one of these should appeal?

bumbleymummy Fri 10-Jun-16 18:54:37

There you go! Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉 grin

Have you seen the film Sideways (it's great - worth a watch). Anyway the lead character is a total wine buff and saves lots of bottles. And he meets an equally fanatic wine buff and he says he's saving some special vintage for a special occasion and she says, "the day you open some special vintage IS a special occasion."

I always keep that advice in mind.

even though I mainly have cheap and cheerful wine in

Queenbean Fri 10-Jun-16 18:55:43

I had a lovely bottle of Perrier jouet Belle Époque that I kept for about 3 years.

Special occasion rolled around.... It was flat and all yellow. Really gross.

I know never keep "nice" wine. Drink it. No more special occasion than the present!

Off to Google sideways

roarfeckingroar Fri 10-Jun-16 19:01:38

Sometimes it is so much nicer to just open a nice bottle on an ordinary evening.

jay55 Fri 10-Jun-16 19:02:37

My new years resolution was to stop saving the best for a special day and to enjoy it. Glasses, booze, bras, I'm enjoying it all. Open the wine.

BarbaraofSeville Fri 10-Jun-16 19:07:18

I open a bottle of prosecco nearly every Friday at 8 pm. Feels like such a treat even if it cost a fiver from aldi. I'm sure the people who gave you your birthday wine want you to drink it not save it no matter how special it is. Is it normal, a bit treaty or very very special wine.

Start of the Euros football in France tonight.

If it is French wine then it is a sign.
