AIBU?

to think this is wrong

A bit of background, I have NC for this.

I live in a rented property and have done for 2 years. We have complained more then once that our lock doesn't always work and then can't get in.

Well today the Landlord came round and took OUT the lock told my DH that he would be back tomorrow with the new keys and finish off. He said okay it was not till after he left that we noticed we have NO lock on our front door. My DH has now gone to work and left me alone in the flat I have pushed things up against the door to keep it shut.

AIBU to think this is wrong! I will be complaining to the Estate Agents tomorrow. I don't feel safe at all. Also have a toddler in the flat.
What can I do

Definitely wrong and probably invalidates your contents insurance too!

Blimey that's a bit of a pickle. When will DH be back? If it's after your bedtime is there somewhere you can go and stay tonight, family or friends? Or call an emergency locksmith (local police station will have a list of approved locksmiths), then argue with agent/landlord about the cost later (at least you will feel safe tonight).
Best of luck, not a fun situation.

See I did wonder that about the contents insurance.
Thank you

DH won't be back till tomorrow morning. I can't leave the flat as there is no way to shut the door it would leave it wide open.

Me and dh have a few rental properties and your landlord is wrong and should not of left you with no lock it's not acceptable, do make sure you complain.

I'd have called a locksmith and deducted the new lock from my rent

Completely unacceptable

You rent via estate agents, do they have an out of hours emergency number for problems? Or call the landlord? and say you and the toddler don't have a lock and you aren't safe it's not acceptable

Sounds very wrong. Can you call someone like Citizens advice and the landlord/letting agency? Ultimately I think you need a locksmith to come and put a lock.

That's not on at all! Is there anyone who could pick you up a cheap bolt from B&Q or similar so that you can at least lock yourself in properly until the LL comes back tomorrow? Do you have an emergency number? I'd ring the estate agent or LL now if you do and insist on a bolt being fitted tonight.

Call out a locksmith and take it off the rent, you can't go all night without locks on your door and also the insurance issue!

Thank you all for your comments. I have left a message with the estate agents out of hours maintenance team to call me ASAP. I don't have the LL number we have only ever gone through the estate agents. I have unscrewed a little bolt that we use to keep one side of a cupboard shut and put that on the door it would not take a lot, but it's better then nothing and have wedged a few things against it too.

Thank you for your advice tho. I will make a formal complaint tomorrow too. Not sure if anything would come of it but at least it's noted.

Why did your DH let him leave? Take pics to show the estate agents. Do you live in a safe area? I wouldn't bloody sleep tonight.
