After searching Iv found a job that's ideal . It fits round my difficult child care needs . It's doing accounts . All seems good . Yet I'm crapping myself I'm starting tomowow . Iv had a couple of training days / I can easily work the systems and do the job . In fact it's been commented that I'm doing well
My worry - I won't fit in I'm not glam .
It's quite a image conscious industry . But I thought as admin staff I would escape this . No issue in my interview . Yet in the short time I was there I was told that " all the staff are very healthy - fair enough
But then it became clear that everyone was very weight paranoid , and this was encouraged . Talk about Botox , stomach waxing and fasting ( by a extremely thin girl )
I'm fine with what they do . I'm not glam and I'm not thin but that's ok . I'm me , im in 40s and don't feel the need to try to look like I'm 20 - but this seems like this is looked down on. I feel like I'm going to be pressured . Iv had self esteem issues before and I'm just a bit scared.
Great money . Great prospects , ideal location- but I'm going to have to sit and eat my egg mayo sarnie in secret because this crazy woman stalks round the staff room and tells people how many calories are in what they are eating . Any advice don't want my self esteem to crumble and don't want to leave the job - how do you deal with people like that - ?

smile and nod then get on with the mayo sandwich, they will secretly be very very envious smile good luck

Ignore them. Be bloody brilliant at your job and be a good role model to younger staff. Good luck flowers

We have a couple of women like this. They told my boss and I how many calories are in our drinks once. My boss said "yes, and I'm going to enjoy it, thank you".

I do feel your pain- I'm in an image conscious business too, but I'd say that the expectation is more on very smart clothing, and looking well presented and 'polished' as opposed to what you're facing. This has been a real struggle for me though- 16 weeks pregnant with HG. I am not looking my best!

Hope all goes well tomorrow star

Good luck for tomorrow. Be yourself! You got the job based on that and you'll be great at it. Enjoy your sandwich, sounds lush! smile

Don't worry about it. You were hired because you were the best person for the job. Let everyone else get on with their insecurities, you'll be fine. Good luck.

I've worked with both men and women like that. Once had a client (a fucking client - the cheek of him) ask if I was going into court 'like that' - I was wearing trousers. FFS.

RaeSkywalker Wed 08-Jun-16 21:57:31

clarrrp a woman in trousers! <faints>

Just to update - (sorry I have done this on 2 threads as didn't get answers straight away - was panicking )

First of all it was commented my hair style today my face thinner !
Lots of talk about food but I didn't get involved . Scarred as uniform comes tomowow ( very slinky black dress !) but Iv ordered size bigger and trying to stay positive - love the job

RaeSkywalker Thu 09-Jun-16 18:59:43

So how's it going?Reckon you must be a breath of fresh air!

whatamockerywemake Thu 30-Jun-16 00:15:20

Not clear from your OP, but is this EVERYONE or just a random food fascist? Because if there's just one (loud) lone voice, you'll be able to go around it (suggest you bring in crisps for everyone regularly and they'll all love you!)

Either way, you clearly got the job on merit, so go in and be brilliant, no matter what you look like (if you're good enough, your looks shouldn't count)

Good luck!

Learn the lyrics to Barbie Girl and hum the song at will.... (They're too young to know it, but it will make you feel better)

MarcelineTheVampire Thu 30-Jun-16 12:32:14

Oh sod them, just go in and be amazing.

Also, take cakes in as I'm sure they are all bloody starving.

Caboodle Thu 30-Jun-16 21:12:57
