To hate living in an old house?

because EVERY last '10 minute' job takes HOURS to do, and would have even the couples who survive Ikea furniture building trying to bean each other with the flat of a spade.

Took delivery of a new fridge freezer this morning.

It took DH and I an HOUR to get the damn thing level, and involved folded cardboard, scrap pieces of wood and several arguments, lots of shouting, hammering, ining and outing and multiple trips to the shed to do, because the 180yo concrete floor in our kitchen is so fucking shonky and wonky.

I feel your pain. Our house is a complete mish mash with bits added to it in different centuries, so all moves at different rates when the ground is wet and then subsequently dries up again. The kitchen door is always tricky to open and close. We get the oven and fridge on an even keel then a few months later they're wonky again. I can actually see the ridge on our kitchen floor and the slope either side of it. One side of the bath is always deeper than the other too.

But I love it though. As frustrating as it is, I wouldn't move. I'm here until they remove me in a straitjacket.

Give me a 70's built house anyday. I'm not into old houses for that reason...oh and they are always cold.

Every sympathy. They look lovely but are such a pain. We moved to a modern house a few years ago and while it's not as pretty life is so much easier!

I know that feeling!

I do really love our house (Tudor) but no floor, wall or ceiling is level. Vacuuming uphill is very tiring, and we have to clean the walls as dust settles on the parts that stick out. And very little job costs more money and time as the house is listed.

I do think it's all worth it though. :-)

I hate my boring, soulless 1950s flat. No character, no bloody storage and crap windows.

I loved the creaky old house I was brought up in. Loads of nooks and crannies and hidey holes, hidden rooms and weird things buried in the garden.

i wish mine was a posh old house, it's an old workers Terrace, typical 2 up 2 down and used to have the outside loo and everything! It was built around 1830 and converted sometime in the 1960s we think, has an extension for the bathroom to go in now.

Ah yes.. the joy of dusting the walls, lol!

I'm right with you. Victorian house and I hate it. Trying to sell but nobody wants to take the project on!

Plus I'm terrified of the cellar.

Not to mention the damp and slugs in the kitchen. So much happier in my ugly ex council house with double the space plus a garden and drive

I haven't ever been in my cellar......scared of ghosts being in there (and spiders) gas man came to read the meter the other day and asked me where abouts it is in the cellar
