...for the head louse combing song? sad

And WIBU to share it and ask you to sing it with your DC so the legend lives on?

DS has long hair, always has, and Friday night is always the night we wash/condition and comb his hair (any more often with the washing and his hair gets brittle).

Since time immemorial we have sung The Head Louse Combing Song, partly to soothe him, partly to drown his bloodcurdling screams so the neighbours don't call social services. Tonight he turned to me in the shower and said "Mum. I'm a big boy now. You don't need to sing anymore".

I am crushed. So here in all its glory is the Head Louse Combing Song, copyright free, for your family use and enjoyment. It is set to the tune of Camptown Races, as all good songs should be.

Comb those head lice out* your hair
Doo-dah! Doo-dah!
'Cause we do not want them there!
Doo-doo-doo-doo-dah-day.

Rinse them down the draaaaaaiiiin!
Before we go insaaaaaaaaane!!
Comb those head lice out your hair
Doo-doo-doo-doo-dah-day!!!

In moments of extreme crisis you may break form and trill:

This is what I have to do
If you don't want licey-poos!

and then return to the song.

* I know 'out of' would be grammatically preferable but it doesn't scan, and sacrifices had to be made for art.

Enjoy. I'm sobbing into my gin over the death of a childhood. wine

grin

Everyone should be made to learn that song!

You can comb my hair and sing the lice song if you like. I can try to get lice from someone.

I used to make up stories about an alien and his pet. They were called Blube and Smeee. They'd go out in their rocket.

DS is 12 now and Blube and Smeee haven't been anywhere for ages.

Welshmaenad Fri 03-Jun-16 21:46:27

Joffrey I would love that. When I track down whichever child in DS' class keeps living reinfesting him I'll hook the two of you up.

That's brilliant!

axlbaby Fri 03-Jun-16 22:13:51

Love it. Am totally going to use next time I have to deal with in DDs hair!!

TSSDNCOP Fri 03-Jun-16 22:20:06

DS is saying he is too old for the drying after bath song:

We wrap him up like a sausage roll
We WRAP him up like a sausage roll
We WRAP him up like a sausage roll
Because he's a wet baby

DS was 9 last week. AIBU to say he is BU?

Binglesplodge Fri 03-Jun-16 22:22:44

TSSDNCOP have you a particular tune for yours? Happy to inflict it on 19 mo DS...

Out2pasture Fri 03-Jun-16 22:25:38

Welsh can we see this on you tube please, I want to make sure I have the tune and actions right.

PrincessHairyMclary Fri 03-Jun-16 22:25:49

Ttsdncop one must go to What do we do with a drunken sailor?

ParadiseCity Fri 03-Jun-16 22:28:22

sad for all end of eras.

DD used to ask me to be mother hen and she was a chick hatching out of her egg. Obvs she was just wrapped in a towel after her bath and I was carrying her from bathroom to bedroom. But now those days have gone sad

blinkowl Fri 03-Jun-16 22:30:03

DS is too old for the poo song. He used to get constipated sometimes and to cheer him up we would sing "you can't hurry poo, you just gotta wait, coz poo don't come easy, it's a game of give and take ... "

grin

It used to make us both giggle.

blinkowl Fri 03-Jun-16 22:30:45

(Possibly TMI!)

FirstWeTakeManhattan Fri 03-Jun-16 22:30:57

I think I love you a bit OP grin, and you TSSDNCOP.

I'll offer up the song you sing when your DC are wrapped in towels, out of the bath and bundled up like swag…

'I've got a lovely bunch of…' (child squeaks what they want to be 'ice cream' usually)
'A lovely, lovely, lovely bunch of…('^ice cream^!')

That's it. grin

FirstWeTakeManhattan Fri 03-Jun-16 22:33:32

Paradise City

We still have dinosaurs hatching out of towel eggs, and I know how much I'll miss it when they're not hatching anymore.

I'm glad you've got such sweet memories.

OMGBabyNo3 Fri 03-Jun-16 22:33:54

Just love this thread grin

Welshmaenad Fri 03-Jun-16 22:34:25

pasture the actions generally involve restraining a wet flailing screeching child with one arm whilst dragging his poor delicate scalp with a NittyGritty with the opposite hand. Just imagine trying to pet a drunk aggressive octopus in a paddling pool of jelly and I'm sure you'll have it spot on.

I love all the songs. Might serenade my boyfriend with the poo song next time he over-occupies the bathroom.

TeaBelle Fri 03-Jun-16 22:34:30

Dd has a 'get out of the bath and get dry song'
Oh oh oh, my baby burrito
Oh oh oh my little girl
Oh oh oh my baby burrito
So get her out the bath and wrap her in a towel

ladygracie Fri 03-Jun-16 22:36:22

I completely misread your title & thought he is 17! Then I read the first bit of your op still thinking that. It put a different slant on it!

Queenbean Fri 03-Jun-16 22:38:28

Love this thread smile

Welshmaenad Fri 03-Jun-16 22:40:18

Teabelle, I need a tune for that! It's lovely!

He acts like he's 17 sometimes, but he's actually 6 and one quarter (as he informed me yesterday, the one quarter is crucial).

saffronwblue Fri 03-Jun-16 22:43:05

DH and I used to sing to each other bitterly
I fought the lice
And the LICE WON

livvylongpants Fri 03-Jun-16 22:44:59

aww i dread the day mine are too old for the drying chant,

'Rub-a-dub-dub insert childs name here in the tub'
'rub-a-dub-dub * insert childs name here*' then child shouts out the most obscure things possible, DD's go to is normally pineapple, sausage roll, poo, toilet, Window etc etc.. the possibilities are endless

purplemeggie Fri 03-Jun-16 22:48:07

I shall be adopting these songs in your honour, ladies. They are fab x
