AIBU to think DD's nursery should have told me about this incident? (picture)

Fyi, I'm not new. I changed my username, as if anyone I know saw this, I don't need them seeing my posting history!!

DD goes to nursery and today came home a little restless and there was a little red mark on her face. I thought she had lent on it funny, when having a nap. When we got home, she would whinge if I touched this part of her face and then a bit later a bruise began to show. I know it's only small, but am I not supposed to know everything that goes on? Her Key Worker didn't write it in her report... I'm going to speak to them on Monday, as the bruise didn't appear until later this evening, so it was too late to give them a quick call.

Yes, they should have told you and I would be asking them WHY they didn't.

Ouch! Perhaps they didn't notice? It might be the kind of bump/scratch which shows up later. It does look like she's caught it quite hard on something though :( Probably enough to make her cry, you'd assume.

Yes I would take the photo and ask on Monday.

If you didn't notice a bruise at first, then they probably didn't realise either.

Oo that looks painful.
Looks like she's caught it on the edge of something.
My dd did the same thing the other week and had a lovely black eye. Nursery didn't see her do it and never noticed till I picked her up. But they did fill in the accident form quickly

Little - there was a red mark though and I assume they must have known she injured it, no? DD cries at the slightest of tumbles. Hmm, just wish I had been told/they had noticed...

She might not have cried with you away?

Dd cries if she falls over with me but not at nursery or with dh

Oooh that looks sore, poor thing. But in all fairness if you didn't notice it when picking up there's no reason why they should have noticed it. I know nursery kids are there to be watched but they're not on a one to one ratio of teacher to child so it's possible it was a brief accident that wasn't seen and even if they saw your dc upset it's entirely possibly they may not realise why. Show the staff monday so they can report but I wouldn't be too mad at them unless they own up to knowing and not telling you.

Honestly, I think it's quite a nasty injury, for a little tot. I would have hoped they were paying a little more attention to her

The thing is it was a little red mark you thought might have been from sleeping funny so it didn't concern you her mother who knows her best at the time. If it did t bruise until later they might not even have noticed. She could have banged herself in the face with a toy or anything. I think yes it's fair enough to ask if they have any idea but I also don't think they did anything wrong not noticing something that was only a small red mark at pick up time. If she didn't cry or make a fuss these things happen in seconds and they can't look at her all the time.

This was my Dd's eye about a week after it was done. Doesn't look so bad here but it was awful. Really dark and black. Looked like someone had thumped her. When it was done originally she just had a little swollen lump. The next morning the lump was gone and the black eye was there. Nursery had no clue! She never cried once. I had the health visitor down for ds on its worst day and she really grilled me about it

Interesting that a child cries in front of mum but not others.

Poor little mite, it's not nice. As above, if you didn't notice yourself at pickup, I would find it hard to blame the nursery. I would absolutely mentioning and showing the bruise to them of course, and see what they say.
