AIBU re: sandwiches

My friend is turning 30 soon and one of her work colleagues, let's call her Lucy, but I don't really know her, has organised an afternoon tea for a group of us to celebrate.

For a bit of background, Lucy took our money for the Afternoon Tea upfront (fine by me) and booked an offer using some kind of voucher for a fancy place. It does state clearly on the voucher that it is a 'set' afternoon tea and dietary requirements or requests cannot be catered for.

However, Lucy will only eat plain cheese sandwiches. Cheddar sandwiches. Not cream cheese, or Feta which are both on the menu, just cheddar. Cheddar is mentioned nowhere on the menu. The venue has said it is set menu and alterations cannot be made under any circumstances as its terms and conditions and advised at time of booking. I think maybe they are being awkward. Lucy is very cross about this and the way she feels she has been treated over the cheese sandwiches so now wants to cancel the whole event, which is not her celebration anyway.

AIBU to think that as a grown woman you should just eat the bits you like fill up on scones and champagne and get over yourself?!

Sorry for the rant, I can't deal with the melodramatics over cheesesandwichgate as it is now know.

Anywhere that does not offer any amendments or changes in the offerings for dietary or allergen or just plain taste wouldn't be getting my business anyways and if lucy was organising it and she is the fussy one then more fool her for picking somewhere that can't offer what she wants.

She can go without the sandwiches or sneak in her own.

Seriously?! You don't go to someone's event based on whether or not you like the food, you go because of the person the event is for. If you know you don't like the food you eat before you go.

Surely Lucy needs to suck it up since she's the one that booked it? Surely if they won't do any alterations and she used a voucher they won't be offering a refund? So does she actually expect all of you to be out of pocket because she's incapable of choosing a place that suits her own dietary requirements?

it's fucking cheese.what cafe doesn't have cheese. how far in advance are these sandwiches made that doing one cheese sandwich is so impossible.

I'd be tempted to cancel. not to be awkward but with such an easy swap I'd have serious concerns about freshness of the food or where the food provided is coming or the competence of the staff when something my 5 yr old could do is not an option...

The place are being pricks - they should be happy to accommodate her and her simple cheese sandwiches.

Lucy is being ridiculous, I'm sure she could have an extra scone/cake and give someone else her sandwiches - failing that she could have a cheese bap beforehand. I'm a reasonably fussy eater but I don't bother other people about that; it's my issue to manage not theirs (though, if I was planning the lunch, I would have definitely have checked the venue catered for my needs before I booked). You're possibly not going to get your money back anyway if you cancel so it's a non issue.

I think it is a bit stingy of the venue however if they catered for her then, presumably, they lay themselves open to a load of other people in the party chipping in and asking for changes.

She can just eat the other stuff and suck it up really. The place is going difficult but no alterations is pretty standard with offers. They are usually strict about it too. I understand she can't alter it but can she not just buy a cheese sandwich separately?

I was a fussy eater, still am to some extent, and I would always suck these things up. Though had I been Lucy I would not have booked somewhere that wouldn't cater for changes like that, not for fussiness but more because there's always someone who needs some specialist catering somehow.
