Or is DH? COFFEE related (V important)

I am lazy. If I make the coffee, and it's after 7pm, I make decaf for both of us as then I'm only opening one container and I always switch to decaf after lunch.

DH doesn't switch to decaf, even at 11pm at night weirdo so he was affronted when I told him this just now. He then said well he sometimes gives me caffeinated coffee in the evenings.

I am insisting that sneakily giving someone caffeine is worse than sneakily not giving them caffeine.

AIBU to switch him to decaf for my own laziness his health, and is he BU to think our crimes are equal?

(In case it's not clear, this is light hearted, no need to squeal first world problem at me or anything)

Ginmakesitallok Tue 24-May-16 21:26:14

Had you noticed?

MooPointCowsOpinion Tue 24-May-16 21:28:28

Some nights I sleep better than others. Now blaming him for all of it.

Nomorechickens Tue 24-May-16 21:29:42

YABU for giving him decaf in the morning! Ask him would he rather gave decaf or make his own, then respect his choice
HIBU for giving you caf late at night.
So yes, your crimes are equal. You deserve each other!

PaperdollCartoon Tue 24-May-16 21:30:41

YANBU. Though I can't drink any coffee after about 4 because even decaf gives me a placebo effect.

If the caffeine effects him that little then it doesn't really matter which he has. It does matter to you.

Well, it's a bit weird not to specifically request decaff or caff when you know someone else is making the coffee.

"Do you want a coffee?"
"Yes please a decaff please"
is how it usually goes.

You are both being U.

ProseccoPoppy Tue 24-May-16 21:37:51

We only have decaf in the house because both DH and a slightly hyper at the best of times and caffeine really doesn't help! FIL "only likes caffeinated coffee" drinks sodding Nescafé and thinks it's lovely when it really isn't. When FIL visits we just tell him it's caffeinated.

What you're doing is fine. Your DH is out of order! The sleep totally is his fault too.

SpunnyFoonerism Tue 24-May-16 21:54:09

I dont get it. I sometimes drink coffee at 11 pm and am in bed an hour later (playibg Candy Crush. Am asleep an hour and a half after coffee). Are you guys drinkonh really strong coffee? In this house we drink Aldis finest. Which we actively prefer to Nescafe.

SpunnyFoonerism Tue 24-May-16 21:56:19

Sorry for typos, the phone I'm using has cracks that make it harder to see typos.

MooPointCowsOpinion Tue 24-May-16 22:13:35

Nomorechickens YABU to suggest I would give anyone decaf in the morning. I'm not a monster. I clearly said after 7pm in my OP.

MooPointCowsOpinion Tue 24-May-16 22:14:29

SpunnyFoonerism caffeine has a half life of about 12 hours. <nods sagely>

useyourimagination Tue 24-May-16 22:15:52

I think you're both BU for using instant coffee (coffee snob here ;) )

DoreenLethal Tue 24-May-16 22:16:07

Could you double cross him and fill his non decaf coffee container with decaf so each time he thinks he is giving you caffiene he is actually giving you and himself decaf?

Just a thought.

OldBeanbagz Tue 24-May-16 22:22:04

Another coffee snob here. I've yet to find a decent instant coffee so you're both BU. Can you not reach an amicable agreement on which coffee to use at which time of day?

I can drink an espresso after a late night meal and still get a good night's sleep so maybe the caffeine has no effect on me.

candykane25 Tue 24-May-16 22:24:12

Half and half. Mix the decaf with the caf.

Dozer Tue 24-May-16 22:25:48

You are both being unreasonable but he is more unreasonable for the reasons stated.

ProseccoPoppy Tue 24-May-16 22:28:16

Spunny we have decaf ground coffee and on the very rare occasions we have it caffeinated that would also be ground "proper" coffee - I'm a fan of nice cafetières.

Decaf instant can smell a bit weird imo.

LBOCS2 Tue 24-May-16 22:30:21

Caffeine after 6pm keeps me awake all night. I'm with you, he is definitely BU.

stealthsquiggle Tue 24-May-16 22:32:23

He is definitely B more U than you.

(And I speak as a sad caffeine addict who can drink it all day and all evening without it affecting my sleep). Especially if he didn't even bloody notice!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Tue 24-May-16 22:37:30

Why is decaff the lazy option? and what do you mean about opening just one container for decaff? I don't understand.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Tue 24-May-16 22:39:15

Sorry, I'm being thick. Just reread your post and it all makes sense so as you were..

Ameliablue Tue 24-May-16 22:41:02

Your crime is as bad as his

thenewaveragebear1983 Tue 24-May-16 22:42:47

I'd be livid if dh made me a caffeine coffee except in the morning, because I literally would not sleep a wink. Yanbu!

MadamDeathstare Tue 24-May-16 22:46:11

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Tue 24-May-16 22:47:42

I think you have to respect each other's foibles and regain some trust in each other's reliability to make the coffee of choice.
Otherwise, it's a can of worms where each of you is sipping coffee suspiciously or wondering if your OH switched the jar labels in a cruel twist.
