I feel like an idiot when wearing sunglasses

I love sunglasses on everyone else and think they look SO cool, but I have tried some but always feel so stupid that I have to whip them off so nobody sees me!
I don't own a pair but wish I was brave enough to wear them, I saw loads of people today with them on and they looked great.

Does anyone else feel embarrassed in sunglasses? Do you just get over it after a few minutes, should I buy a pair?

Go and try some on. I think boots has a range, primark, etc

Sunglasses aren't all about looking good though, they're safety equipment too Grin

Fruitcake!
Have you never had any?

I haven't had any since my teens. Every year I say I'm going to get a prescription pair, so I can wear them for driving. I just think I'll look stupid. And they make everything too dark.

I can't not wear sunglasses when the sun shines. I have very photosensitive eyes and bright sunlight hurts my eyes.

Besides, wearing sunglasses reduces the risk of cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration, and you should protect your eyes from UV rays anyway. So why would you not wear sunglasses?

I used to feel like that. Since having the baby I've embraced them as a way to hide eye bags / general tiredness, and now I don't give it a second thought. You just have to get used to wearing them. Unless your style preferences are particularly "zany", or you're wearing them inside in December, no-one will notice / give a toss (in the nicest possible way). Get them on tomorrow!!

I have never looked at anybody and thought 'hmm, they really don't suit those sunglasses'.

I absolutely promise you will get over your selfconsciousness about it within minutes. Go on, buy a pair!!

I can't imagine not wearing sunglasses when it's bright, especially for driving.

They're the norm, no need to feel conspicuous when you're wearing them. You'd look more odd squinting and shielding your eyes. Go in Primark, try a few on and buy a couple of cheap pairs.

I feel exactly the same! Will wear them in the car, perhaps on holiday or in the garden but never just generally out and about on a sunny day. I'm always paranoid about pinch marks on the bridge of my nose when I take them off too.

Actually, I'm like that with any accessory really, hats - even when it arctic weather I feel so self conscious. Scarves, I'll happily wear under a coat but never as an accessory to my outfit.

I felt like this until last week! I tried some on in a shop with my friend and for some reason I really liked them so went and bought them, have worn them out all day once and it felt weird at first but I think I got over it quickly Smile

You will only attract attention if your glasses are bright yellow, in the shape of a pineapple or a smurf!

I have been known to wear mine even when it's raining. I suffer from migraines, and can really struggle with lights. People look and some might judge, who cares. Sunglasses are amazing.

You should play online and decide which ones are best for you, then go for it!

I used to see them this way, but now I see it from a health and aging point of view. My vow this summer is to wear them wherever possible. I can't afford any more wrinkles.

I am in danger of becoming that person who wears sunglasses indoors.

I love sunglasses so much!

Go on, put 'em on!

Ray Ban Wayfarers look good on just about everyone, and they come in neutral colors. I have a pair in tortoise shell and a pair in pink (not neutral). I wear sunglasses all year round if it's sunny; squinting causes crow's feet. :)

Blimey, I wear sunglasses all the time.

I can't function without them on a bright day.

I have Ray Ban Wayfarers in black and tortoiseshell. As someone else said - they suit everyone.

They are my absolute lifesavers when I step out. Can't bear the sunlight. I have around 10 pairs and I nearly almost forget that a wearing them, even when I stop to talk to someone and it's a shady spot I forget to remove them. I can't live without a pair in my purse - all round the year. Can't think of any reason why it's such a big deal? It's just a necessity like a Jacket in winter?!

Me too! I feel like a total knob. I kind of think most people look like knobs in them really but needs must.

I do have some because I hate having to scrunch my eyes up in the sun and but I'll only wear them driving or on the sunniest days of the year.

I'm not Bono one of those twats who wears sunglasses in a bright room Blush. I have really sensitive eyes and hate really bright light so I wear them all year round. I looked like a complete tool recently wearing them in the rain, but it was a really big rain cloud in a sunny sky and I couldn't see without them.

I wear sunglasses all year round. Esp on snowy days when any sun really can glare.

I have prescription ones and cannot leave the house without them when driving or just in a car or on the bus or walking.

I have never looked at someone and thought they looked weird for having some on. Just get some for chuffs sake.

I was like you until recently, I tried on lots of pairs in Boots and googled what size frames were appropriate for my face shape. I set myself a budget and eventually plunged for a pair and I've never looked back. I feel so comfortable wearing them it's untrue. The only thing that took a while for me to get used to was speaking to a fellow sunglasses user, I felt some strange, bizarre need to see their eyes. I'm ok with it now. I would never wear them indoors unless I was a Hollywood star.

I find them pretentious. But I'm strange.

Ffion that made me laugh! You won't wear a scarf? Are you worried people will look at it and think you're a bit too full of yourself? Too fancy?

It's hats with me. Whether a woolly hat for winter or a straw/floppy hat for summer. I bought a really nice paper straw one for £6 and I still can't dare to wear it and end up with reddened cheeks and forehead.
