This is a what would you do?
I'm going out shopping today and was planning to have lunch while I'm out. My Db & SIL are through at my mums visiting so I invited SIL with me to get a bit of a break away from my toddler nephew and to spend a bit of time together. Neither of them are working just now as they've only just moved back into the country. The problem is I'm not sure how to offer to pay for lunch for SIL and maybe buy anything she might need for DN without seeming insulting. If I offer her automatic response would probably be no but I would feel bad thinking that an outing I'd asked her on had cost her money. So what could I say that isn't patronising to show I'm happy for it to be my treat?

I'd go with "where shall we go for lunch then? My treat"....said breezily!

Then perhaps when you're walking round the shops say something like "oh I've been wanting to buy a present for dn for ages but no idea what to get, is there anything he needs right now?"
