Obviously I'm an awful person aibu to bristle whenever someone says this? confused

00100001 Thu 19-May-16 22:12:13

What's the problem?

AgeOfEarthquakes Thu 19-May-16 22:12:43

It's very twee. I'm not a fan either OP.

PPie10 Thu 19-May-16 22:13:01

Yes what's the problem?

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 19-May-16 22:13:13

It's not a one person event.

tigerdriverII Thu 19-May-16 22:13:45

They say this, they're off the Xmas card list.

BzyB Thu 19-May-16 22:14:09

I'd say " we are expecting a baby" but def not "we are pregnant"

Alconleigh Thu 19-May-16 22:14:11

Always sounds to me like a man trying to make out they are doing as much work to produce the baby. Er, no.

I can't stand it - so American.

It's impossible for the man to be pregnant.

"We're having a baby" Yes
"We're pregnant" No hmm

MrsFrankRicard Thu 19-May-16 22:14:45

I don't like it either, only the woman is pregnant, obviously, so only 'I'm pregnant' makes sense.

thatorchidmoment Thu 19-May-16 22:14:57

Twee and smug. Neither of which should be aspirational!

I don't mind "we are expecting". Not sure why? <inconsistent>

scarednoob Thu 19-May-16 22:14:58

Oh god I hate this. Really? Both of you? Even if you're a same sex FF couple, that's quite the coincidence. Medical marvels!

MadisonAvenue Thu 19-May-16 22:15:02 makes me swear every time I see it.

JeanGenie23 Thu 19-May-16 22:15:06

Oh are we, so you have vaginal examinations as well do you, no? Thought not.

WinniePooh101 Thu 19-May-16 22:15:10

I HATE it! The woman is pregnant the man is not! Simples!!

Only one of you will experience (possibly) morning sickness and all the other elements of pregnancy before getting to the stage where you can't sleep because bump is so big, you can't get comfortable in any position, you have to be pulled up out of a chair smile before eventually giving birth which most definitely only one of you will experience!

DoinItFine Thu 19-May-16 22:18:13

Once a lesbian on here used that phrase and I genuinely thought she and her wife had decided to do parallel pregnancies.

I was trying to be polite and helpful whilst thinking "you must be out of your minds! Both pregnant at the same time! shock "

It was blush when she realised my mistake.

But really it was her fault for being inaccurate ;)

LouBlue1507 Thu 19-May-16 22:18:15

I hate it too! My OH wouldn't dare say it 😂 ... Yes we're having a baby but it's me that's pregnant! Haha!

KittensandKnitting Thu 19-May-16 22:18:25

I don't understand why people are so easily offended.

Beepbopboop Thu 19-May-16 22:19:54

It's always the same type of person that says it.

PaulAnkaTheDog Thu 19-May-16 22:20:08

Meh, it's her body but their baby. However they refer to the pregnancy is up to them. I don't judge people for it.

janey77 Thu 19-May-16 22:20:31

I loathe it personally, makes me cringe whenever I hear it.

Olddear Thu 19-May-16 22:22:24

Hate it! It's up there with 'hubby' 'better half' and anything pre-fixed by 'mummy....'

Hunstanton Thu 19-May-16 22:22:52

Yup, really really irritating.

Just simply an annoying phrase. Yes it was a 2 person event to conceive, but only one of you is carrying/will deliver FFS!
