Ds went for a shower. I mostly leave him to it apart from reminding him to wash everywhere and laying out towel and pjs. A while later I went to go to the toilet and there was piss all over the seat and around the rim. Fair enough, it happens from time to time and ds is getting better lately at not making any mess.

I asked him what happened. He told me he was in the shower, then suddenly desperately needed a wee, so got out of the shower quickly rushing to the toilet sloshing piss spray everywhere, including over the floor and up the wall. Which I hadn't realised, I thought the floor was wet from the shower. So I'd been stepping in it.

So have mopped up as best I can for now.

I wouldn't mind but he didn't even tell me he's made a mess so it's been like it for an hour and dried into the wall.

We've had the conversation over and over about not waiting until the very last minute to use the toilet, he does this with wee and poo. Also about telling me if there's been an accident, or if he's spilt something. So I can clean it up.

Do they all do this?

Why does he need to rush out of shower, surely he can just do it in there? Isnt that what majority of us lazy adults do?

Well yeah, I did say he'd have been better just doing it in the shower, that wouldn't have bothered me. Perhaps he bought he ought not to.

My 7 year old sometimes pees on the seat and won't tell me. That's probably because I'm mean and make him clean it up. So he conveniently forgets to tell me.
He does hold it in when he's playing until the last minute because he doesn't want to stop playing until he absolutely has to. He doesn't hold his poo in any more. He did do but then he ended up crying while doing a poo because he'd held it in so much that it hurt him on the way out, so I think he's learnt his lesson there.

My 8 and 9 year old would do this once in a while if they were rushing to get it over with. If they were watching a film or had a friend round etc They'd get told off for it.

He's a boy - that's it. My 7 yr old regularly pees all over he seat.

BOYS!! 4 younger brothers......when I lived at home I was more surprised when I went to use the bathroom and there wasn't pee all over the seat tbh! Apparently lots of boys can't pee straight and need to be circumcised as their private place is too tight......happened to my Bro and he had to be circumcised at 8 yrs old.....he was very embarrassed.....my mum told everyone! motor mouth! Is it a common occurrence? If so, maybe go to docs?

My ds just wees in the shower. He never misses the toilet though, he's always had a good aim for targets.

I did tell him off, not for having an accident but for not telling me so I could clean it. Feel a bit bad now. Although I had started making him wipe wee off the toilet which had been working for a while.

I thought I'd seen the last of wee dripped over the skirting boards.

He actually does sit down to wee a lot of the time at home. This wasn't a bad aim though this was not getting to the toilet in time.

I'd just have thought he'd have learnt by now not to let himself get so desperate.

I doubt it's a bladder problem as he holds his poo too. Despite me explaining to him he'll get constipated.

My 10yo ds is the same. Drives me beserk on way home from school. I can see he needs loo as soon as I pick him up. 7yo ds who has been dry since 2 went though a phase recently of waiting till last minute and then getting wee or poo in his pants. I kept finding them in the toilet bin! I think it's pretty normal, if annoying. Ds1 (the 10yo) also holds himself front and back (whether he is desperate for wee or poo) which is very embarrassing.

You need to get him checked for impacted constipation, it builds up and presses on the bladder causing urge incontinence like this.

Mine pisses up the wall, around the loo, over my basket of cleaning stuff near the loo. His wee splashes everywhere because it comes out so fast. If he sits down it comes out under the loo seat

I'm sure this is fairly normal for boys this age but just to put my 2 cents in..

please make sure that your dc is actually is holding it till the last minute and not that the urge to pee comes on so strong and urgently that they can't hold it.

I have suffered my whole life with an overactive bladder that used to make me have frequent accidents and its only now in my 30's that I'm having something done about it - as a child everyone always assumed I was waiting too long but it wasn't my fault!

And that bit about needing to be circumcised is just pure bollocks.

My mum spoke to brother's teacher about him 'spraying the bathroom with his water-pistol' when he was about nine, and was surprised when the male teacher doubled up laughing and finally managed to say "I don't think it will be a water-pistol he's using..."
From this I deduced that piss-spraying is a common activity amongst little boys.

Could the sound and sensation of running water from the shower have made the urge more pressing than usual, op? does for me

My DS (11) sometimes leaves it to the last minute and his close friend does too-even more so until he is rocking back and forth and I have to tell ask him to go

imo boys are worse for it than girls and sooner or later they become more aware of what is and isn't socially acceptable and rather than risk the embarrassment of an accident or doing the wee jiggle will go more promptly.

I would gently remind your ds if/when you suspect him of holding it in but I would most definitely get him to clean up after himself each and every time he makes a mess. No matter how inconvenient for him and even if you have to get him to repeat it again and again until he cleans it properly. Having mum/dad clean up after you as a boy is ultimately what leads to useless adult manchildren.
