To ask if/when your baby's eyes changed colour?

DD is about 8 months old and still has her enormous baby blues. Mine are green and DP's are a dark hazel, so I've been expecting them to change for ages. People in both families have blue eyes so there will be genes in there somewhere but I was sure they'd get beaten into submission by the overwhelming mass of brown genes!

It's only a little light hearted thing but I've gotten used to her beautiful baby blues and would rather love it if they stayed. Did your baby stay with the colour they were born with, or did they change, and when?

Both mine stayed the same they were born with - one very pale blue and the other so dark almost black - same parentage for both - genetics can be very strange!

The genetics for eye colour are complex, much more so than school biology suggests. So you never really know.

My eyes (and most of my family's) are extremely dark -you can barely differentiate my pupils. We felt sure this would dominate over my husband's blue eyes, but no, I have two blue eyed boys. Seemed unlikely I'd have been carrying a recessive blue gene but guess I must have.

But I think they can still change colour until around 2...

My 2 year old's eyes are just starting to change now. I have very blue eyes, DH has very brown, and they're sort of green at the moment. Sometimes they still look blue, but they're definitely changing.

About 12 months, my dd's are now dark green, after being blue for a year. I've got very blue and my husband has greeny brown eyes. My DS stayed blue although they are quite a pale blue now.

My DD had deep blue until about 5 and then they changed to slate grey like mine! My DH's are blue and the other DC have kept his ocean blue eyes!

Ds is 7 months and his have gradually changed from inky blue to hazel since about 4 months. He did always have a hazel-y tint to his blue eyes though iyswim. My older ds has chocolate brown eyes and his changed from very dark blue to brown pretty quickly, about 2 months old. My daughter has blue eyes that have never changed, although have changed tone of blue over the years. I cannot begin to fathom how the genetics of dominant genes works, it's way above my head!

And yes to pp it was a gradual process up to about 10.

I think if they are still blue they will stay blue. DH and I both have brown eyes but dd1 has blue (it is recessive so can skip generations). DD2 has brown eyes and her baby blue eyes were always a dark blue, not the type of blue that is ever seen in adults.

DS1 was born with dark blue eyes, they went purple when he was about a week old for a few days then turned dark brown. DS2 had hazel eyes that turned dark brown around 2yrs. both DDs had dark brown from the start.

DS1 (7) was born with blue, but they are now more of an amber/orangey colour with green, blue and yellow flecks. They appear different colours depending on the light. They are pretty amazing.
DD (2) was born with very dark blue eyes. She now has big brown eyes.
DS2 (9 months) was born with blue eyes and still has blue eyes (although his right eye has a bit of brown in it, the left is entirely blue)
If your DDs are still blue then chances are they will stay that way.
But saying that, my dad had blond hair and blue eyes until he was 5 when they both started changing. He now has dark brown eyes and dark brown hair.

I was quite surprised by my DD's eye colour, she was born with very blue eyes. basically everyone on my side of the family has brown eyes, dh has green eyes. but his dad has blue eyes so the genes are there somewhere!
DD is now almost 2 and her eyes are still blue, although they seem slightly more grey than they were to me, so maybe they will end up grey over time but I don't really know.

Dd's changed to brown when she about 12 months.

I once did an eye gene calculator thingy and it said that with mine (green) and dh's (blue) there was no possible way she could have brown Hmm but she does.

My eyes used to be blue until I was about 9/10, now they're a mix of blue and green.

My eldest had dark blue eyes when she was born which gradually changed to light blue and are now almost grey.

My second child had his dad's light brown eyes from about six months old and they haven't changed since, or at least not noticeably so.

I think you're right and eye colour has no rules.

DS1 had dark slate/blue eyes at birth, but they changed to brown at around 4m old. My mother kept going on and on about when would his eyes go brown, as she mistakenly thought that mine and exP's brown eyes guaranteed brown eyes for DS. They seemed to get gradually darker, then one day I got him up and noticed they'd turned mid brown, seemingly overnight! He's 10 now, they are still the same brown colour.

DS2 is a funny one though. He had paler blue eyes than DS1, but not the real pale 'baby blues'. He is almost 4 now, and over time they've gradually changed so that he has a dark greyish/blue ring round the outside of the iris, then greenish blue/greyish blue (depending on the light) towards the inside ring of his iris, which is a ring of hazely golden brown. So he seems to have every colour at once, and I never know what to say when people ask what colour his eyes are! I'd have said blue until he was about 2, then the brown bit developed.

My ex's DM has this eye colouring - blue with a golden brown ring in the inner iris, as does my Dad, though his are more greenish blue. So I can't quite tell which side DS has picked it up from. It has confused the hell out of my mother though, I honestly think she suspects DS2 is the milkman's Hmm. Lots of comments about how he doesn't look anything like his dad, how DS1 has his father's physique but 'who knows' who DS2 gets his from... v tedious as I have explained it all clearly to her.

All my 3 kids were born with blue eyes like me. My DH has brown eyes so I thought they'd take after him, but the older two kept their blue eyes. Youngest were pure blue up to about 3-4 months, then started gradually changing to a very murky mixture of colours, before finally settling at hazel when he was around 9-10 months.

My DS had brilliant blue at around 2 they started to change mow they are hazel. DD's were the same but now aged nearly 4 they are light blue like mine, however, I think one might be turning hazel. Mine are blue, DH hazel but DH were brown as a child.

DD had blue eyes at birth and they started changing at about 9 months. They are now green with darker brown flecks.

DS had huge blue eyes when born and if anything they are bluer now.

Father of both had blue eyes, I have green.

Are "all" Caucasian babies born with blue eyes? What about Asian and African descent babies? Fascinating topic!

Ds1 is 4 and I'd say his eyes have turned from blue (like mine) to hazel (like DH) in the last six months or so.
DS2 is only 9 months and has bright blue eyes like DS1 had but I now expect them to change in the future.

DS1 was born with brown eyes, DS2's never changed colour but developed a yellowish ring around the middle and a very dark blue ring around the outside and DS3 had very pale silvery eyes that got bluer until they matched his brother.
