AIBU?

AIBU to ask what to tell DGC about new sibling who is about to be born?

Posting here for traffic and to tap into wisdom of MNetters.
Just arrived at DS's house to take charge of our DGS (2) while his mum goes to hospital to give birth to a new ( probably female) sibling. He's been told there's a baby inside her and coming soon but I don't think these things impinge too much or too seriously at his age.
Question is, what shall we tell him when he wakes up? That his mum has gone to hospital to get the new baby??
Did mean to read up on this but baby seems to have decided to come a bit early. All advice gratefully received!

I'd just tell him she's gone to hospital to have the baby. If he's like my DS was he will be so excited you're there he won't care!

Flowers what a wonderful day for you all

Mummy's fine. She and daddy have gone to the hospital because the baby is coming (out?) and the doctor is helping.

I don't expect there'll be any more questions apart from when are they coming home. I would possibly prepare him for the idea that it might not be until tomorrow or the next day just in case it's long haul. If they're back earlier than that then that's all good :)

Just been through this, I said a 'special hospital' though because DGC thought his mum, dad or the unborn baby were ill, that was why they were at the hospital/ with the doctors.
DGC took it all quite as a matter of fact.
Congratulations on your new DGC!

What a lovely thread,

I hope everything went well op Flowers
Have his mum and dad mentioned that they need to go to hospital to get the baby?
If so just tell him she's fine and she's gone there and will be home soon!

It's time for the baby to come out of Mummy's tummy so they have gone to the hospital. We can see them and meet the baby soon.

At two my children completely understood that there was a baby growing inside me that would come out when it was big and strong enough. They were excited and anticipating the arrival. I suppose how aware he is will depend how much parents have talked to him about it but mine definitely understood pretty well (I have four with two years between each)

My DM prepared dd (3) by taking her into town and helping her to choose a little present for new little brother: we had already made arrangements for little brother to have a bigger and more showy present to give her.
