AIBU?

... To think there are too many cries of LTB on MN?!

Seriously. Day in, day out.

It worries me that so many MNers see marriage as being so disposable.

Cheaters, chronic liars, DV, fair enough. But at least half of the threads I see on here certainly don't warrant a LTB Hmm

Is this genuinely representative of the population which might explain divorce rates in this country or is it confined to MN?

OP posts:

Just move house and learn to drive.

HTH.

Why not post this in Relationships OP?

We've not long had a thread about people seeing marriage as disposable and that went really well Hmm

Was deleted iirc.

Have you thought of getting a cleaner and booking yourself a spa weekend?

Well thank god there's a young mummy on the scene to educate everyone Grin

The solution is at your fingertips, OP: post the advice that you think better on the thread in question.

Generalising about the merits of unspecified other threads never works.

Although a more serious response, I actually think women remaining in abusive relationships because of some kind of sense of societal duty to the institution of marriage is more of a problem than strangers on the Internet giving their opinion that they would not put up with various kinds of shit people post that their partners do to them.

We're not living in the 1800s anymore.

If someone wants to end their marriage they are allowed to do that.

No one has to stay in a marriage if they don't want to.

It's 2016 ffs.

I recall an identical thread to this not long ago

I only ever see ltb on here in 2 circumstances

  1. In a jokey way when an op is having a jokey winge about a dp or dh

  1. When there is clearly abuse in the relationship wether pysical or emotional . Sometimes with e.a it takes people who have been through it and come out the other side ( of which there are many) to recognise the signs that are there in neon lights

IMO not enough women LTB. I am shocked daily at the miserable lives I read about in here. Devoid of any respect or basic courtesy nevermind genuine love and partnership.

Yes yabu
People should ltb more often imo, or just not marry tb in the first place.

Psycobabble · 12/05/2016 21:39

And also yes lilac

There is no award at the end except maybe a nice buffet and present at your 40th wedding anniversary .

If someone isn't happy then that's reason enough . You only live once - be happy !

More LTB, I say !

Down with the "stick it ahhhht for the kidz"

It worries me a whole lot more that people put up with shitty relationships and shitty treatment from shitty partners just because 'society' tells us to put up and shut up and stand by our man and try to change him if he's a bastard. Yuck.

Totally agree YANBU
if only it were so simple in reality,
It's all well & good saying LTB when it's someone else's life.

I thought LTB meant Let things be for the first few months, whilst clearly changed the meaning of many posts Blush

In all fairness, she's not that wrong. I've only been around a couple of years and I've been a bit startled at the free use of LTB.

I had a very minor (and I mean really trivial) moan about DH and cooking dinner on one thread and immediately, people were telling me to LTB, he is abusive, I am enabling his manchild behaviour etc. Obviously because I knew my moan was trivial and I am secure in my relationship, I ignored it, but I do wonder how many vulnerable posters dive into LTB when it's not necessarily the right thing because a load of MNers have piled on telling her to leave.

Possibly it's because that if you weren't worried about something, you wouldn't be posting on my. If you felt more secure in your relationship, then you wouldn't have the need to post on an anonymous Internet forum.

Admittedly, there aren't many threads where people advise posters to discuss the issues, go to Relate, try making ago of it etc.

what Psyco says, very often it is said in a jokey way Wink, the rest of the time ea, liars, cheaters, abusers etc what is the answer apart from ltb?

Report
Psycobabble · 12/05/2016 21:48

rightmywrongs

But that's the point

When you say " if it was only so simple in reality"

It should be simple ! Unless your together because it's good and your in love then any other reason for staying is wrong.

So let's have less stigma ( because there still is ) in saying enough is enough , less putting up with shit and more ltb

( not you specifically I mean just generally)

Yes it's hard . I had to start again . Be skint . Whole family trying to persuade me not to etc etc I could go on but ultimately best decision ever !
