AIBU to think aloe vera is pronounced 'allo veera' and not 'ah verrrr'?

As per stupid radio advert proclaiming the weight loss properties of 'ah verrr' [breathy voice].
It was only after I'd heard it a few times that I realised they were talking about bloody aloe vera.

Thought you were going to say it was your MIL, as it is something mine would say.

Wasn't there a parrot that said Allo Vera!

It's like M and S calling hosiery 'hose-er-ee' instead of 'hose- ee-er-ee'. They seem to have deposed of the 'i' and it annoys me no end.

I don't get that T shirt Blush I always thought the joke was "Allo Vera" as in "hello Vera." Please explain.

Thank you Maggie I assumed it had been me who'd pronounced it wrong all these years. Not that I say it much but in my head.

Vera was her husband's first wife - iirc he was dragging his heels over leaving her or something and generally being a shit. A Low Vera was a bitchy dig at her - and the last time I could think anything positive about Julia Roberts.

Grin at your righteous indignation OP

I hate the Fred Olsen cruise advert on the radio where she says Fraydolson Cruises in what I can only presume are supposed to be sultry tones

A Low Vera was a play on Aloe Vera - it meant that Vera (the first wife) was behaving in a low way by not consenting to a divorce or whatever it was that she wasn't doing.

Report
thebestfurchinchilla · 10/05/2016 21:30

Was Vera short as in low? or was it A low as in allow the divorce? Really not that clever either way.

Vera was behaving low? Oh wasn't she pregnant with his baby when he started started the affair with Julia?. Low or what?

SirChenjin · 10/05/2016 21:33

I thought it was her behaviour - but you're right, it could have been allow

Either way, Vera was not and Julia/Mr Julia were.

I thought it was pronounced "wonderful opportunity to earn a good income working from home and recruiting and managing your own team", or something like that. Or is that French for "bullshit"?
