AIBU?

to get ear plugs for DS1 to go to sleep or just kick him out of bed

DS1 has always been a terrible sleeper. He's now 10.

Quite often he will go to sleep in our bed and we move him back into his own room when we go to bed. However he will often get back into our bed at 4 or 5 am.

He claims it's too noisy to sleep in his room. His room is at the front and ours is at the back so he does hear road noise which we and DS2 do not.

There's nothing I can do about the noise.

I don't know what to do. I fret about him not getting enough sleep.

Do you think ear plugs or white noise would help? Or do I just need to be firm with him.

I want my bed back!

Could DS1 and DS2 switch rooms? You could make it fun and make a big deal of it. If he's always been a terrible sleeper the noise thing might just be an excuse to get in with you, but he'll have no noise excuse if they switch rooms.

White noise can definitely help. Even if it doesn't block the sound it gives a constant noise for the mind to focus on as opposed to the traffic. Do you have a tablet? There are loads of white noise aps that run continuously- rain, rivers etc

Is there any way you can switch the bedrooms around? I would find it difficult to sleep through traffic noise.
Alternatively you could set up a camp bed in your room, or on the landing? Make it less of an attractive prospect than a nice comfy double bed?'

Agree with PP - swap rooms with him, or swap DS2 might help.

I'm not sure swapping rooms would work.

Ours is the big room with the en suite which has just been decorated Angry

He has the second biggest room so I could suggest it. That might focus the mind about the noise !
