AIBU?

to think Sainsbury's are really taking the piss?

Basically, our local sainsbury's had taken loads of the normal tills out and replace them with a few more God forsaken self service machines. Now, personal feelings of hatred aside, they haven't increased the staff manning them, so, where there were four machines and one member of staff attending to them, there are now 8, and still one memeber of staff.

It really bloody takes the piss IMO. One poor sod, basically doing the job of 8 checkout assistants, as the things never fucking work, while everybody looks pissed off with their stupid light going off.

And if it wasn't bad enough, to get your car parking money back (one of those "you buy a ticket and its refunded in store" ones) you have to physically give it to said poor sod, who refunds you out of their bum bag, no option on the stupid till!

Right. Sorry for the rant. No, it doesn't get more interesting.

Tweet Sainsbury's....

I hate this, supermarkets open in small highstreets, kill off local business and then they can't even be bothered to serve their customers.

Our sainsburys machines are generally fine, sure you're not exaggerating a teeny tiny bit? Wink

also you don't need to strike through every potentially offensive word

I would tweet them. DH used to work for Sainsburys and said there is a rule when training that customers should not have to cue for more than 2/3 minutes.

The Sainsburys machines bug me because they insist on you putting your own bag down on the scales if you don't want one of theirs.

I've only ever used the Waitrose machines once, though. Evil buggers. You can have a queue a dozen people long for the manned checkouts with only one out of the 4 self checkouts in use. They are that dreadful.

I always rate the way they manage their queues. The staff are all excellent and work really hard and are always friendly. Which is why I think Sainsbury's are taking the puss so much.

Also, I'll strike through what I fucking want.

Sainsbo's self serve seem a lot better than Morrisons, without fail in Morrisons I need help but not necessarily in sainsbo's.

For ages I determinedly used the manned tills as I felt that I didn't want to put someone out of a job. Then my tesco introduced the self scanners and now I do my shopping with as little human input as possible.

JuxtapositionRecords · 08/05/2016 20:45

Oh op sorry I should have put a little 'lighthearted' disclaimer on my strike through comment.

Agree with PP on the B&Q ones - maddening. Literally have scanned and placed down an item and it's demanding me to scan the next item. Give me a bloody chance!

Haven't been in a shop for ages. //www.sainsburys.co.uk works a treat. I can run the hoover round mnet waiting for the van to come. Where I used to live at least the self service tills weren't on the phone yapping in a foreign language like the people in the corners shops who put up little notices saying "Tesco, shuts every little shop". No they don't, the bloody poor service some of the little corner shops were providing them is what was shutting them.

I love self service machines, it means I don't have to interact while buying shopping. YABU.

YES YOU BASTARD MACHINE I WAS SORTING MY CARRIER BAGS OUT SINCE YOU'RE SO DAMN FUSSY ABOUT WHAT GOES WHERE ON YOUR PRECIOUS WEIGHING PLATFORM

My DSis has just lost her job as the Asda petrol station she worked in has gone completely self service Sad

What happened to human contact? Anti-social buggers aren't we.

I'll say this for checkout staff; they've never once threatened to kick me off their checkout because I took too long fiddling about with a carrier bag because I don't shop at Aldi.

It's making a mockery of the NLW I think - yes we'll pay it, but we'll pay it to ONE person! Madness.

Definitely agree with tweeting them, they're quite responsive to this sort of thing.

i use the manned tills as self-service puts ppl out of jobs
and they're annoying

Report
TendonQueen · 08/05/2016 20:55

Much as I dislike human interaction when shopping, I dislike being barked at by a machine even more. And frankly a Bolham capable of those hideous 'little twists' in the ads is capable of any atrocity.

I like self-service. I prefer it to a manned till.

Well that's it, in theory I like being able to just rush my items through. But God forbid I'm buying wine or something with a crinkled barcode, then you end up waiting twice as long to be "assisted" as the staff have 7 other people to help.

I don't have the Twitter, but may consider it, as I think it's worth pointing out how hard their staff are working.

I hardly ever use the self service tills because I'm nearly always buying alcohol

Report
splendide · 08/05/2016 21:28

I prefer self service but they do need more people sometimes. I think the machines have got better though, I don't seem to be nagged about unexpected items so often now.
