To ask if I should get my hopes up about clomid?

First post. I've been TTC for over a year. I have PCOS and periods are extremely erratic (often can be every3-4 months or so). We've finally passed all the obligatory tests and I'm due to start clomid next week(likely provera first to induce period and then clomid). So excited/apprehensive and I don't want to pin all my hopes on this. Does anyone have any success stories? It's hard to get a straightforward answer and I'd be really interested to hear people's honest experiences of using clomid. Thanks in advance.

I have twins from my first go on clomid. Then conceived another baby on first time of trying. When they were 20mo! Slightly crazy in my house...

My sis went from no periods and PCOS to 2 beautiful DC on Clomid with pretty fast results. Good luck OP!

The first two cycles didn't work but they increased my dose for the third and we conceived. Relax and fingers crossed.

My clomid baby was conceived after the third month on it. He's 22 now. I didn't have PCOS, but I did have very erratic periods. I went on to have two further children without any fertility treatment.

Conceived on 8th cycle of clomid. It seemed to reset my system as DC2 conceived naturally and very quickly!!

Good luck flowers

I took 4 cycles of it for unexplained infertility (I have PCOS but do ovulate) before having ivf. I did ovulate on it but ovulated most months anyway so it was only intended as a boost. I never conceived on it.
For baby #2 we tried it again and I conceived twice, both times the month after the Clomid. I sadly lost the first pregnancy but the second baby is now here and is 10 days old! This time around I used it alongside Metformin which can help conception and prevent miscarriage if you have PCOS. Good luck!

My Firstborn was concieved on the second round of clomid after 3 years of trying. Second didn't need any help and my periods are regular since the 1st one was born. Good luck!

Chlomid didn't work for me unfortunately despite upping the dose frequently. I have PCOS and tried many fertility treatments over a 15 year period, all of which failed.

After 15 years we stopped trying. 2 years after that I fell pregnant without assistance, and again 18 months later.

Good luck

8 months of Clomid.....no luck but it made me feel dreadful....very hormonal, fell asleep randomly...it was awful. then tried ICSI and have DD.. My friend however conceived the first month of trying with ti

My friend conceived on their first try with Clomid. Good luck

I conceived both DS1+2 after three rounds of clomid each time.

I'm not going to lie, it was awful each time it didn't work, my hormones were all over the place, and the weekly blood tests were time consuming. I'd do it all over again though if I had to.

Best of luck Op flowers

Thanks so much! I'm willing to try anything so a few side effects aren't going to put me off but interesting to know nonetheless. Thanks again everyone x

I have PCOS too and my periods were all over the place (anything from 2 weeks to 18 months between). We ttc for 5.5 years at which point after being messed about by an endocrinologist for years I was then transferred to a fertility specialist. I was told to lose 7 stones to get in the bmi range for Clomid. A year later I started on Clomid and conceived on the third month, I now have a lovely 1 yo ds.

The side effects for me were psychological. I heaped pressure on myself and got very stressed out. Maybe think about some things you can do to relax (yoga and swimming helped me). Also don't expect your cycle to be a perfect 28 days, mine went 29 days, 41 days then roughly 26 days. Good luck!

I had my son after the 2 nd cycle on clomid

I conceived twice through Clomid and my two are now young adults! No side effects and I am just so grateful it worked for me and hope it does for you too smile

Fizzielove Sun 08-May-16 20:46:24

I was prescribed Clomid and managed to get pregnant the day I filled the prescription! So maybe it was just the relaxation of the hope of help of Clomid IYSWIM!! I also had really long cycles, no PCOS, but no reason for it either!

Good luck!

Dc1 is thanks to clomid and dc2 just happened 3 years later - good luck!

We conceived on the very last round of the highest strength clomid. The side effects were ghastly migraines and reduced by tears by sill things like the bus driver smiling at me but the end result was absolutely worth it smile
Good luck op.

I had three cycles of clomid. They were unsuccessful for me. I didn't have a dreadful experience with it but it did give me pretty severe cramping when af arrived.

Incidentally my infertility is unexplained.

sdaisy26 Sun 08-May-16 21:21:41

I have pcos & had absolutely no cycles at all prior to Clomid. It wasn't all smooth sailing - conceived first month but mc which was heartbreaking and then I didn't always ovulate with the Clomid but this was unusual as most people will respond the same each cycle.

BUT I became pg again on 6th cycle and dd is now almost 4. Found out I was pg again (v happily but completely unexpectedly) on her 1st birthday...20 month age gap was hard going but now 2 years on is great fun.

Yes the side effects weren't much fun - hot flushes & rages especially - but all worth it in the end.

Good luck.
