AIBU to cling film the paddling pool?

Ok so joking... Well half joking. Well I seriously considered cling film for a minute. How else do you stop all the creepy crawlies getting in, and the water going green overnight? Also thought the cling film might keep the heat in... Just takes so long to fill the blooming thing, would like to get more than an hours use out of it.

Use a pool cover and buy a fishing net.

I once bought one of those floating solar covers to keep the heat in but tbh, only the top was warm so once you mixed it about, the whole thing was freezing again.

We ended up doing a 25% water change and adding warm water, although that was mainly for me as the kids didn't mind the cold

Oooh top tips , thank you Worra! Will definitely look into buying a pool cover. Have a little fishing net and will create an exciting bug catching game for dc. Like the partial water exchange too. Simple ideas but new to me!

I'd usually just empty at night and refill next day if it wasn't raining by then

My 2 wouldn't go in old water. Had to refill every day. One blade of grass in it and the whining would commence.

Ours is always full of grass and mud within half hour so I empty and refill every time and try not to cry over my impending water bill.

We add Milton to ours, not much but keeps it fresh for a week.

Why would the water go green overnight? My two aren't fussy about grass or leaves in it. A pool cover is a great idea. I haven't seen them for sale though.

I learnt from experience a few years ago now not to buy a big pool which takes ages to fill - would spend ages filling it up - kids would go mad in it for 15 mins and then go and do something else!! Also easier to drag a small one if you need to move it into the shade.

I use Milton if it's out overnight and give the DCs old sieves to remove the crap they've thrown in.

This is why we brought a lay-z-spa it has a filter/heater and lid and we can put the bubbles on. It keeps the kids entertained for hours on end without having to top up with hot water or it going green. Just fish net out any flys or anything that decide to dive in.

I use an old bottom fitted bed sheet if the pool is right shape it works perfect

Where do you dispose of the water if it's got Milton in it? Wouldn't have thought it would do the garden much good.

We leave it for over a week just til it starts to go green and then water the garden with it as the Milton isn't active anymore.
