Why do they think it's such big news? I'm sure if you live in Scotland then it's interesting. But as 92% of the UK don't live there, why go on and on about it? It's the second time today I've had to turn the news off because I was so bored by it.

To be fair the BBC have been wetting themselves since polls closed yesterday not just to be about London mayor or councils. So also had more than % wise from Wales and Northern Ireland too. Probable ups their % of Scottish or Welsh politics air time for the rest of the year

I've had to turn the news off

I do that too when I'm bored by some news item, knowing that within 24/48 hours something else will come along. Just keep your fingers crossed that it's not more stories bombs blowing people up, or natural disasters killing thousands - and if you think of it that way it might help to keep some news about an election in one part of the UK in perspective.

Very interesting election results.

SNP mopped up on central / west Scotland with swings against Labour.
Tories came roaring back in rural areas with big swings against the SNP.

An overall drop in the SNP vote since the last Holyrood election - significant as the referendum happened in the meantime.

If the Scottish Tories put enough distance between themselves and Cameron & co, they could hit 30 - 40% next time and Labour will collapse into being a soft-left-unionist minority party.

What I'm pissed off about is that they haven't been covering the story in any logical way. Most people do not live in Scotland and really are not interested in the election results. After all, if you can't vote there and it doesn't affect you why would you care? FWIW I feel much the same about the US elections. Yes, tell us who's up for President nearer the time, and the eventual winner but I really, really do not care about the results of some minor victory in Indiana or wherever. Ditto London mayor. It's important if you live there, but only of vague interested if you don't. Certainly not worth endless TV news coverage.

The BBC didn't send their Breakfast presenters to Wales this morning did they? Labour have won more seats in England than they did last year, and the Tories have lost, but all I heard this morning was about the SNP and how the Tories were second in Scotland.

GiveMyHead I don't live in the SE of England. I do live in England and although I feel that what happens in other parts of the UK is of interest, the SNP result really didn't warrant such major press coverage. As other posters have said, not even everyone who lives in Scotland is interested.

You do realise that the results of the Scottish elections are important for the rest of the U.K. too? Scotland becoming independent would have an effect on the economy of the whole of the U.K. The SNP failing to get a majority makes another referendum much less likely.

So despite you not being aware enough to think it's not big news it's actually pretty important.

Well I was sitting here in Lanarkshire earlier wondering why they were doing so much coverage on the mayoral elections. Couldnt care less. So. Works both ways.
